Save your money on polishing, Andy. its an old school and obsolete practice.

Unless you mean polishing the outside (for looks), which is cool.

Yeah, polish the outside for the look. Like how Andrew (AeroBFA) did his. Love that look! Ha, forgot about the newer style engine cover to complete that look. :smile (2):

Andy - I may part with my cover, which is in perfect condition. With regards to the internal porting - polishing, it has all the makings of a dark art (especially with regards to newer intakes) but if you get the right guy.....Keep in mind my car hasn't run for ELEVEN MONTHS so I've no way to prove/disprove how well all of the additional breather mods I have invested in will pay off.

I like the engine cover look, but too bad it hides the sweet looking external polish. A cover with a clear window in the center would be an awesome dream.
Congrats Andy!

Lance, let me know if you do decided to part with your cover. Yeah, porting is dark art. I do plan on getting both the lower & upper manifold ported. Once I get all the necessary parts for the conversion, I go get a dyno as baseline. Swap the manifold and get another dyno to proof if there any benefits. Obviously, the gain (there should be some) cannot be credited for the porting. The result would be from the entire conversion (ported manifold, throttle body, and intake). This will be interesting. My thinking was that this conversion probably will not be completed anytime soon. Targeting next Spring for completion!

Yeah Pork, love the "window" look of the new cover and exposed runners.

I'd be curious of the comparison between natural rear/side fed and natural front fed. Is there anything to show the improvement of going to the front fed without any porting?
(Definitely to some port and polish though. I'm not suggesting staying natural)

Well, will have to see how involve it is with the conversion, if it takes an hour or two to swap the front fed in, I wouldn't mind in getting a baseline on the stock/natural front fed manifold and then swap the rear fed back in and get the manifold ported and get another reading on the ported manifold. It will definitely be good statistic for others :smile (2):

I didn't have time between my mods and the issues to do any dyno runs but my guess is that the VK45 will really feed off the cumulative incremental gains. BTW - I agree with Pork RE: the look, one of the reasons I removed the cover, the stand offs then chromex coated all the intake parts is that they are really attractive as an engine bay center piece. I have run most of the wires and tubes around the runner stack but when (and if) I get my ride back I'll take some additional time and tweak the bay layout. I have a plan but when the motor is in one shop and the FX is in another its kind of hard to get anything done.

Hmm chromex! Any info on this Lance?

Jeff, thanks for splitting the classified and the conversion conversations. :good:

$225 was an even tilt, $200 is a no brainer. I go out to Mitsuwa for a day and lose this to HA. LoL

Great deal and great steal!

A visual - http://forum.caswellplating.com/pow...ceramic-coating-chrome-like-shine-review.html

I had a shop professionally shoot my parts. It started with the headers, after I saw the pipes as a finished finished product and realized how close to chrome it was, that plus being durable and heat holding (or in the case of the intake heat soak resistant) it sounded like a great alternative to polishing. It looks amazing and won't tarnish over time as well.

Cool. Thanks Lance. I have to find a local shop that shoot this stuff!
