TPMS question - sensor is reading **

Shortly after I start the car and start driving, the flat tire signal turns on although none of the tires are actually flat, when I turn the engine off, and then turn in on again, the signal turns off, and so on.
When I check which tire is flat in the navigation screen, I see that the 2nd sensor reading is **. I understand the 2nd one is for the front right tire pressure sensor, so I swapped tires around many times but the 2nd sensor reading remains the same as **. I understood from this the issue is not related to any of the sensors in the tires and rather somewhere else. .

Any one might have encountered the same issue? And how this can be diagnosed and fixed? I am not sure if my analysis above is correct.

I have ** on one of mine too but the dealer told me its prob due to one of the sensors battery being drained and needs to be replaced. I plan to replace it when my tires are replaced. In the meantime, I have the low tire pressure symbol on my dash. Been this way for a couple months.

A * usually just means a bad sensor reading. Either a resync is needed or a replacement.

That comes on when you first start driving as the sensors start to get picked up by the car. If it lasts for more than a few minutes while driving the sensor has probably gone bad and needs replacing. I think it's slightly covered under warranty, but I had to pay $50 I think it was. I can't remember the term they used.

Ok I am going to try that, so this means the TPMS recognizes each sensor and ranks it always in the same order (in the sensor list in the nevigation screen) even if this sensor changed around and placed in another corner of the car, right?

What is the battery size of the OEM sensor? I need to have those bought and ready on hand before I go to the mechanic shop.

Correct, each sensor always pops up in the same order, independent of where on the car it is.

I don't think you can just replace the battery. I'm pretty sure it's the whole sensor.

That is actually good news, it will be a small problem and easy fix then, I am going to have one sensor ordered and I will post how it goes.

I talked to Discount Tire a couple months back about this...they said its about $60 each and they can determine which one is bad and replace just that one.

I was told that when it gets cold, the sensors go crazy. Mine have stars when it gets cold out, and somehow reset themselves the next time I'm in the car. Same thing happens in my sister's Titan.

How do we sync our tpms sensors my light on the dash just came on today but on the screen I have ** on all four tires. I just bought the car 2 months ago it's a 04

You can see if a resync is enough to solve your issue first. If that works then there is no need to buy new sensors.
