the stock FX wheel is ~30.4" diameter. these 24's originally had 275/30-24's, that was the 24's equivalent to stock size.

these replacement tires are now 295/35-24's and the wheel is now 32.3" diameter. almost 2 full inches larger than stock. it really stuffs the wheel well of the fx. these wheels flushed out and sitting nice and low is just so hot, pretty much maximum fitment possible, but because there so big and the offset is so flushed they just rub like crazy and can't be used with the FX lowered much at all.

to run a wheel like this the fx would have to sit pretty high and have that 4X4 look unless it's massaged a bit to allow the wheel to tuck. in order to ride low you have to have room for the tire to completely tuck into the body instead of hitting the body.

what I did was flare the fenders edges as much as possible, reformed the molding area, I flattened it completely and flared it all out and then also stretched the fenders and quarters out as much as possible without cutting and welding, just to get enough clearance to fully tuck. I also had to modify the inner fender liners in the front fenders. the moldings will be bonded back on the molding will only flare out very slightly throughout the center of the arches and it'll just look like it belongs that way.

this is what the stock front fender edge looks like

and this is the test ride height, it drives well with minimal rubbing even at this height but of course final ride height will be slightly higher than this, I need to get the bump stops straightened out to dial in the final ride height but it'll def be able to stay pretty low .

Jesus. That's intense. I guess the 22s I'm looking at are completely plausible with comparison to this, ha.

31.85" is my tire diameter with 285/35/24. On H&R you rub on bumps, front and rear.

OEM spring, no rub at all up/down-wise, but Chris can confirm the fronts look like stilts.

John, not sure if it's rubbing on full turns, but on the passenger front side, there is a plastic covering on the bottoms left if you are looking directly at the wheel well, that covers some hosing. I rub there and also on the front plastic wheel well very slightly.

I'm going to have Handy_Andy heat up both those plastic pieces with a heat gun and push it a little back.

I want to drop a little, but not sure what my setup can take. How did you test at full compression? All I can think of is having all the neighborhood kids sit on my hood.

I have 12kg/12kg front/rear setup a little stiffer than most in the front for the rub reason.

Have you thought of pre-loading the front coilover? That would let you go a bit more extreme in drop without bottoming out. Pre-load is set at zero from factory.

1) damn wish you were in chicago. That fender work is amazing.

2) hollywood's wheels and bbk look amazing on a first gen too! Thicker tires in NY is the way to go. Awesome setup, wheels, bbk, color of car and wheels all look great.

Hey Guy's, Yes you all need to move to NYC, LOL, Yes i'm very fortunate to live close to the Genius called TurboCad6. Yes I am DESILVAFX35 & yes I did get in on the Group buy for Kido coils.
Hey HOLLYWOOD, yes your rims & big brakes live on in my ride. So looking forward to seeing all the mod's TURBO did & testing her out. As Chedman13 mentioned i had to go for wider/thicker tires to cope with the crap NYC roads. The amount of EXTRA work TURBO had to do on these rim/tire fitments & fender flaring is amazing & VERY much appreciated

Looks great... can't wait to see the ride all completed. Definitely going to be a head turner :smile (2):

yeah, I was half asleep when I posted this thread, didn't mean to make it an "official IS approved" thread, working on changing that, and also failed to mention that yes this is Desilvia's FX and yes these are tony's old wheels and brakes.

chedman I can def see what you mean, this things would have to be really close to full stock ride height just to not rub like crazy, but to me if it winded up looking like it's riding on stilts then that would just kill the whole point to all these mods in the first place, so I really couldn't just leave it as-is. Desilvia ordered these tires and had them shipped to me before I had even seen his fx or the wheel fitment on it so I really didn't have much input on them up until the point of the new tires actually being mounted. I didn't even realize they were over 32" diameter until I actually had them mounted.

once I had the tires mounted and realized how much they just don't fit I really didn't want to just accept that, so at that point it was no longer desilvias fx, at that point it became mine and my problem until I could solve the problem :) I'll type more about what your calling preload and how to test compression and all that a bit later

Really stoked to see those badboys on Desilvia's ride, good work Turbocad! This wheel & BBK combination is still one of my favorites off all time. It's timeless, it looks great on any color FX.

This set up looked hot on Hollywood's ride and continues to look hot on desilvias!

Great work making them fit, turbo!
