I noticed in the Infiniti FX that the rain sensors don't work as well as other cars that I have been in and am wondering if you guys have noticed the same thing and/or if you know about something I don't.
If you flick it down one notch so that it is set on interval wipers and then turn it to shortest distance (most sensitive), when the rain drops are very very small, then it registers the wipers pretty well and cleans the windshield, but if the rain drops are bigger, sometimes even when it's set to most sensitive turned (shortest internal), then there is a decent amount of the windshield that is covered before the wiper cleans it to the point that I sometimes need to turn the wiper on manually to wipe it off clean. Most of the time here in Michigan, the rain drops are bigger. My reasoning for this issue is because maybe it doesn't hit that one eye spot on the windshield as much, but I don't know. It's almost like the most sensitive setting should be the least sensitive setting! If I set it to least sensitive, then I'm basically blinded by rain drops and can't see at all before it gets wiped, so something doesn't seem right. But if the rain sensor portion is really only that one eye the size smaller than a penny then sure the whole windshield could be covered before a rain drop hits that spot! :mad.:
Now on my dads 2001 cadillac deville DTS, the rain sensing is awesome. It's like perfect....not too much not too little...you literally never need to worry about changing the sensitivity or anything and doesn't matter if very very small or very large rain drops, etc. it seems crazy how good it is almost like the whole windshield is a sensor (but I know that is not the case). Plus it's a 2001! So what is the deal here?
FYI, I remember reading a TSB something about if the area is not clean or something, but mine is very clean. And it works as I mentioned, but just doesn't seem well developed or programmed or something else I don't know. Before I had my windshield replaced i noticed this and then afterwards now with new windshield and replaced new rain sensor, same, so I'm wondering if there is anything else to look at maybe reset the sensitivity or something else or if you guys notice this too....if you notice it too a little then it must be for sure an Infiniti issue that I'm shocked about because to me it's useless 50% of the time.
Any info would be appreciated. Does it work well for you guys or have you noticed similar experiences when sometimes you need to manually turn it on to get something cleaned off? Or have any suggestions if they work awesome for you in all situations all the time?
