The grill is in my basement drying as your reading this. It came out good. I will post more pics tomorrow of the grill on the fx. As for those guys who paint their grills in an hour, i don't know what kind of technique they do but sanding down this grill took me about 3 hrs or so.

For the grill painting procedure i did was, i heated the emblem with a heat gun and i used a small flat head screwdriver and pried off the emblem. Once the emblem was warm it came off with very little effort. Next i sanded down the grill with 150 grit sandpaper. You will sand down the grill. As you start sanding you will see and haze and you will think its sanded. Wrong! Keep sanding and that haze will go away and the true silver of the grill will show. That's how you know you sanded the grill good. Next i used rubbing alcohol to clean the surface thoroughly. Make sure its clean! Let dry and do a visual inspection to make sure no dust landed on it when you weren't looking. ( If you turned your back for a few seconds) I next used Krylon Plastic Primer. Spray on evenly the front and back of the grill. Don't hold you hand in one spot while spraying or you will have drips/runs in the paint. I let that dry for about and hour in my house where its warmer. Better temp for the paint to dry. After all dry i used Krylon Plastic paint Gloss Black to paint the grill.

should have sold your sport grille for non-sport plus cash THEN painted the regular grille...make money and still look the same....
but it looks alright let's see it dried! it looks kinda orange-peely in the pic

DIY projects are always worth it! Congrats and welcome to the blacked out grille club! Now you're cool!

Brooooooo come on!!!! You just destroyed a sport grilled?? Should have posted a swap or something.. I would have give you mine plus some change!

It does look good bro.

the sport grille is also a bitch to paint, you gotta sand off all the smoke layer to even get to the silver layer that's just there already on a non sport grille ...

You guys made me realize that i shoulda sold the sport for a regular grill. Stupid mistake i made there. I didnt think the sport grill was so sort after.

Lol well once you go black you never go back.., bye bye sport grill ..

It looks good on black tho..

Don't know.. I being wanting one but have other thingon my mind that haven't even try to find how much it goes for.

don't know if it;s really worth so much more, someone might give you 40-50 & trade there chrome though... that's about the most it's worth more than a chrome if that, new there the same price & used they average close to the same really too. I've had a few & even traded them straight up with whoever needed one just to get a chrome that's much easier to paint, win/win really, but what's done is done, no big loss other than a few hours & a few fingertips

sanding is a freaking B&^%@$!!H,.. where's the nearest working sandblaster .

BklynJohn, looks good dude. Keeping the emblem chrome?

Are the grills from 1st and 2nd gen FX's compatible?

Yep! Only if you are John(turbocad) lol he mostly made part of the 09 fit the 03-08 gen's grills fit!.. Just kidding. They are not compartible but if you want give the man a holler, he'll try to work something out for you.
