G35 overheating only with AC on

My G35 sedan only overheats when I turn the AC on while idling or in very slow traffic. The needle for the temp goes all the way up to high. If it turn it off the temp goes back down. The only time it ever overheats is when the AC is on only. Also when it does start to overheat the AC then begins blowing out hot air only.

Now here is where I'm confused. Coolant level is fine and no air bubbles and just had a flush a few months ago so everything is clean.

I'm wondering is the electric fans suppose to both be coming on when the AC is on? Only the driverside fan comes on then it goes off after a few seconds. The passenger side never comes on at all. Also I notice if I'm idling and the AC isn't on, the fan that does work keeps on kicking on every minute and even then only one fan comes on. I was aware of the issue when I bought it so I'm just now getting to it. Also I noticed if I turn the AC on it takes forever for the one fan that does work takes a few minutes to kick when it realizes the AC has just been turned on.

does it look like its the fans? I will buy them but I don't wanna waste money on it if it doesn't fix the issue.

Thermostat issue?

Also, at least that explains these signs:

Check the front of radiator and the condensor behind the grille. Making sure that there is no debris/paper/leaves stuck on it. Just hose it down if you see any debris there.

I had this same issue a few years ago.. thermostat is shot. Mechanic let it run for 2 hours no problems, as soon as he turned ac on, bam overheated immediately.

One would think that if it was the thermostat that it would over heat all the time, with or with out AC? Also, when the engine coolant is in a over heat mode one or both of the fans should come on and stay on until the coolant drops down to "normal" operating temperature?

Now, that I think about it. I had debris on the radiator, low fluid, and a bad stat.

Whatever the reason i say do not overheat the car .... Im sure u already know it but it may lead to warped head sooner or later.

Agreed. Also, I had my FX for eight years and never saw only one fan come.

During normal operation, only one fan should come on. Passenger side fan kicks on when engine temps rise or if you hit the AC since the condensor needs airflow too. It may be a thermostat since you're overheating and that fan never comes on. The AC issue may be related or not. The compressor may be shutting off to prevent damage since your car is overheating.

So it's definitely the thermostat? I'm going to place an order for it if it really is.

the thing is like I noted before when the AC is I only the driverside fan comes on and the passenger side doesn't. Even if the car overheats the driverside still is the only one that comes on.

Test to see if the fan works. Apply 12v to it. To see if bit freely spins and etc. Next would be to test w/e sends the signal for the fans to come on. Most cases there are two ECT. One for the gauge and one for the fan. Sometimes they are mounted on the t-stat housings like a couple BMWs.

I would give you more detailed model specifics but I haven't had an issue with my G in the cooling system.

But the fan isn't working, just gotta find out why.

This must be a nissan family symptoms

I had the same exp with my 91 q45

And my 05 murano .....

Never fixed the problem cuz the mechanics seemed to not know the problem and i ended up trading them later ....

Don't know how to test the it myself lol

i was thinking of trying the thermostat first since I could pick a new one up for $30. Only thing is draining the coolant in this thing is a pain in the ass cause air bubbles are hard to bleed out of the system

I checked the condenser and radiator and no leaves or debris in them either

Not hard at all, just make sure you open the coolant bleeder screw while filling it up.
