FX50 Aftermarket Fitment of 22x10.5 - offset concerns

Seems like I am struggling with wheel sizing fitment issues, like several folks on here, when ordering wheels online. I am attempting to go to a 22" wheel, replacing my OEM 21x9.5" with +50mm offset wheels. I am trying to go a bit concave, clear the hub, avoid rubbing (especially in the front w/ a BBK on the FX50), push outboard somewhere between 20-25mm on all 4 corners, and go as wide as possible with a square stance. At this point, I have located some new wheels that come in a 22x10.5" variety with both a +42mm and +25mm offset. They also come in a 22x9" variety with similar offsets, but for the stance I am trying to achieve, I selected the 22x105" with +42mm offset. Here are my calculation results with a 285/40r22 and 295/35r22 setup, my questions follow:

Questions:
So my biggest concern is on the front-end where the BBK lives - can it be cleared with these wheels? Next, the hub stub ends - will I need to get a hubcap extension (prefer the flush cap)? Next, suspension components - is the 2-5mm calculated inboard difference likely to hit anything? Finally, I'd prefer the 295/35r22 tires - rubbing issues on the inner fender possible (I intend to drop with H&Rs down the road)? Thanks for the input in advance.

Depending on the spoke design, a +42 could have clearance issues. When I first got my wheels, the +35 made contact in front with my front Akebono calipers. I have a 1st gen with the brake conversion, but the spacing has to be the same between caliper/rotor/wheel. The spokes clipped the edge of the caliper, it was drivable, but it chipped the paint off the edge of the caliper and you could hear a brushing sound. My wheels are 20", a 22" wheel may be worse since the spokes come out at a slightly shallower angle for a given width/offset. Some concave designs have more of a curve to the spoke, those may provide more clearance. Higher offset like +42 can cause cap clearance problems as well since the backpad is minimal. I don't know about inner clearance since the 2nd gen has different suspension design than first, but I doubt there would be an issue.

Thanks for the feedback, I am not sure how different it is from the geometry of the gen 2...this is why I wish I could do a dry test-fit. You are right about the spokes - these can also be problematic. I have called 3 retailers for the 10.5" and they simply won't sell me anything other than the skinnier 9" wheel. I might be willing to do up to a 5" spacer to push them out just a hair more if it will work, but then it's really getting past where I'd like the setup.

10.5" in front may not be "approved" according to a lot of the generic wheel calculators these places use. They're very afraid of selling wheels that may rub so they go very conservative. But if you look a few posts below yours, someone just sold his FX50 and he's selling the 22x10.5" Vossen wheels he ran which cleared his brakes. So I don't think you'll have a problem.

A lot of places will sell you the wheel if you tell them you understand that there "may" be a clearance issue. I had to basically write a note to the place I got mine from acknowledging that I knew 10.5" was wider than they recommended for the front and I was on my own if it didn't fit. Of course it fit, but they need to cover themselves.

do you really need the squared setup? you must really want it because it it were me i would give up and do a staggered. everything Shadow said is just about right. +1 on those vossen cv1s for sale. i know that niche makes 22x10 veronas specifically for the FX50. theyre +38 and look really good. not to sure about clearing the brakes though. Anyone running this setup?

Thanks for this info. I am trying to determine if the Niche Sport Milan 22x10's will fit on a 2nd gen 50. Anyone have the Milan 5 spokes?

Shadow191 - I think the bigger issue is the offset for the fx50s. Clearly the wheel/tire combination on a 22x10.5 is an inch wider than the stock wheel and the tire size range typically runs between a 275 and a 295 (which is certainly bigger as well). I'm willing to accept those dimensions because I know it can fit - I just need to make sure I can clear the BBK with proper offset.

Fxmonkey - I hear you, and I like the staggered look, but the practical side of me prefers to be able to rotate the tires. However, it's quickly becoming problematic to find the right setup. The Vossens that Brian has for sale are actually pretty close to being ideal for the FX50 owners as it comes in a +30 offset (which results in almost 25mm outboard poke and clears everything mechanical). HINT HINT to any FX50 owners that like that CV1 look, those are a steal! I'm just not wild about those style vossens, no offense to Brian, and new vossens are way too overpriced. He actually gave me first shot at them.

The best I have been able to find in the square setup is a set of 22" x 10.5" with +40mm offset on 285/35r22s. With this setup I am looking at coming inboard about just under 3mm and the outboard poke is about 20mm - which is looking about spot-on for the tight tuck look. I am still somewhat concerned with the extra 3mm inboard stance on the offset as that is getting really close to the BBK in the front. On paper, it looks like it will just barely clear 'em. The OEM 21s clear the BBK by about 5mm. I am curious if any FX50 owner is running this same setup and can comment?

+40 concave wheels will probably not clear the BBK in front at 10.5", that's what spacers are for. Unless you're going for custom wheels with custom offsets, you're likely going to have to run spacers. Most 1 piece wheels come in 2, maybe 3 offsets for a given width. If that offset doesn't work for you, you need spacers. Stock wheels with higher offset clear because they're not concave and the narrower wheel means the backpad is thicker for the offset.

If you know that +30 x10.5" width Vossens clear, use that as your guide. Don't overthink it with the wheel calculator, they'll show you what happens to your wheels, but every car is different and the wheel wells, fenders will be different. And it doesn't take into account the variances in tire sizes between manufacturers. Unlike wheel sizes which are constant, a 285 tire from one manufacturer will often be a different width than a 285 tire from another.

Jtnpcfx - I just looked at the Milan series and I do not see a 22x10 that fits our bolt pattern. They have 22x10.5 that does (M134, M135), but the offset is +40 and exactly the same as what I am looking at from a dimension perspective.

Yeah, I think the vossens are the only rim I've seen with an ideal offset for the fx50s...I think it may be time to consider a spacer for an add'l 5mm to get me where I need to be or go to the staggered approach.

Well, I pulled the trigger and ordered bigger wheel/tire setup. Bought a set of 285/35r22s to go on a set of 22x10.5s with +40mm offset. I am going to dry fit them on the stands and test the clearance before ordering up spacers (if needed) once they arrive in 2 weeks.

I wound up going with a Avat setup very similar to Vossen CV4s and yes, they are concave. Here's a side-by-side comparison:

There's no doubt the 285s will fit, I was half-tempted going to 295...but then it would have been problematic with spacers if I had clearance issues. I was originally going to go with Milanni Khan 9032s, but nobody had 'em in 22x10.5. I actually spoke with the company directly and no bueno on that wheel for at least 4-6 months. Here's what those Khans look like on a Camaro: [Dead Link Removed]

Psyched to hear how the 285/35r22s on 22x10.5s fit, cheste1. What brand and model did you order? Are they concave?

Thanks...hope so. I like the wide and tucked look, so yes, next is a drop on H&Rs until a camber kit becomes available and then I'll consider the coil-overs. The 285/35r22 tires offer plenty of variety and low prices, so burning up the inside edge on the rear isn't a show-stopper, especially if I can rotate the tires.

But...I really want to complete my muffler delete with the mandrel bent ss pipes first. My local exhaust shop ultimately chose not to tempt it and refused the business. I located another custom exhaust shop with an on-site mandrel bender about an hour away, but just never got around to getting it done because they wouldn't quote me a price without seeing the vehicle in-person. Life and priorities keep getting in the way.

Gonna look killer. You'll just want to lower it to get rid of the bounce & get the stance and handling right

Sounds like a plan. I would lower first. Might as well finish the job.
& the tire rotation is great. Square was the choice call

Yeah...I hear you, those H&Rs are tuggin on my wallet pretty bad. Might as well get it all done at once. The good news is that somebody on here is going to have an opportunity to own a set of OEM 21s with 20" hub-centric spacers included (FS coming soon). That should help defer the costs a bit.

On the 2nd gen, it's the front camber that isn't adjustable since it's double wishbone. On the rear, I believe you can make the camber kits from the 1st gen work. If you rotate tires, it's not going to be too bad. I just rotated tires and I'm at -3 in the rear and -2 in front, after ~9K miles, no camber wear.

You may as well get coilovers first if you're planning on getting them down the line. If camber is a concern still, just adjust them to H&R height. The ride and handling will still be way better than just springs. No point in getting springs, dealing with the install, and then uninstalling and swapping to coilovers when that's what you wanted in the first place.
