Finally Detailed My Ride

I've been meaning to detail my ride for some time now, but never got around to it because I've been busy detailing my customer's cars. Well, I finally decided to save a weekend for my fx and give it a good spa treatment. But first, I had some long scratches on the hood when I bought it, so I decided to work on that. I'll share my procedures in case someone finds it helpful/useful. Here are some of the scratch pics.

I first tried hitting it with Meguiars #105 on Purple Foamed Wool pad, using my makita. This was pretty agreesive, but I was only able to remove what looked to be about 50% of the scratches. So, I decided to wet sand the area (about 1/4 of my hood) using a 2000 grit sandpaper. Then, I buffed off the sanding marks with 3M Rubbing Compound using Yellow Wool pad (makita), followed that with Menz Intense Polish on Meg W7000 pad (makita), and finished off with Menz Final Polish (PO85RD) on LC white pad using my pc. Here is the hood with the scratches removed.

The rest of the car only needed very minor swirl correction, so after claying, I used the Menz combo (Intensive Polish on Makita + Final Polish on PC). The entire car was then sealed with Chemical Guys M-Seal and after proper curing time (8 hours), I applied a coat of CG carnuaba paste wax. For the plastic trims, I used mother's back to black. Chromes were polished with Meguairs chrome polish, and the tires received 4 different tire dressings. Here are some after pics.

I wanted to take it for a drive and take some pictures, but was too tired and decided to call it a day. Hope you guys enjoy the pics!

P.S. As mentioned, I wanted to tested out some of the popular tire dressings on this detail, so I used different tire dressings on each tire. That write-up/pics will come later as I will be continually checking & taking pics for shine/depth and durability.

You know your detailing man! What is it that you do for a living?

Ha. I have a 9-6 office job but I also have a side detailing business with my brother-in-law. I like the detailing job better, although it's not enough for me to quit my office job. :frown: For now, at least!

very clean job...i would be curious on what type of stuff you used to clean up the scratches...just clay bars?

No, I used several different machine buffers as well as wet-sandpaper, compounds, and polishes. I wrote out the exact steps with the products I used in between the pics. :)

... never fails ..... it rains the day after :frown:

I KNOW! I was like shit! Clean up wasn't too bad though. Quick Detailer spray and a mf towel, and about 20 minutes of my time.

She looks awesome! Thanks for sharing your process with us.

Thanks!
I will soon do some chip/nick repair write up too. I've been meaning to fix the ugly chips on my front bumper but haven't had the time. Not sure how it's gonna turn out because the previous owner used some nail polish that didn't even match. Women....

What do you use on the black plastic bottom trim?

If there isn't any white or faded trim, mother's back to black works fine. If you are looking to actually restore your faded plastic trim, Poorboy's Trim Restorer works really well. Remember to use terry towel instead of microfiber towel for this job as terry towel has more 'bite'. Then, finish off with 303 Aerospace Protectant on MF towel and you should be good to go.

My main concern for this detail was the scratches on the hood, so I didn't do a thorough write-up of the trims, which may come in the near future with some b/a pics.
