Hey all,

Just thought I'd throw up some pics of the nearly finished "rev 2" of my FX50s custom sound system. I've upgraded the read deck/enclosure and all wiring, added a third Alpine PDX amp (M12 1200 watt monoblock for the two subs) and a second Morel Ultimo 12 (on order).

In addition I've bitten the bullet and moved my front mids and tweets into the A-pillars with a custom molding job and upholstery.

Remaining to do:
1. Finish out the false floor
2. Tighten up the under deck wiring a bit, techflex/ties/routing/etc)
3. Install the second sub (although it's 100% functional now)
4. Add matching wood grain and aluminum to the rear deck (to blend/match the FX50s door trim)
5. Integrate full mobile wifi/broadband/hotspot into the vehicle which will provide "always on" Internet and local lan via either cellular or bridged wifi, dynamically.

Here's a few shots taken in poor lighting from my phone. One of these days I'll get some better shots and put those up. But for now these are better than nothing ;)

This was a huge job compared to my previous build. This time instead of tackling it alone I enlisted the help of a good friend of mine Scott, here in Austin, who's done the lion's share of the work. He's got a nice huge shop in his back yard, a CNC and expertise up the yahoo. Learned a lot as we built this together over the course of many weekends and couldn't have done it without him.

Wow! that's a nice sound system... you give me a great idea, I will price out and see how much it costs me to do same. Thanks

Dope set up, those front A pillars are nice, did you do them yourself also or did a shop do them for you? I'd be interested is a similar set up. Your highs and mids must sound crazy with that set up.

A friend and I did the pillars. First pair I've ever done. My contribution was in the molding/contouring you see and my buddy scott did the application of the upholstery and fiber glass work. I'm pretty confident I could build a pair now but it takes a lot to get them perfect! But like anything else once you learn, and if you pay attention to details, you can do it yourself.

Just finished a almost day long tune on the car and it sounds amazing. The sub (just the one so far) is running like super low, like no drop off before 10 hz, and the rest of the setup was super easy to tune. Good positioning of components, a great car acoustically and quality gear makes a big difference.

We did a lot of work in time alignment, crossover points and eq today and couldn't be happier with the results. The stage is wide, high and very well centered.

Have a show coming up in February and thinking of entering and seeing how things go :)

Looking great !! Amazes me that these builds still happen with the current quality of the oe systems but i like it !

Out of curiosity do you mean that the newer systems are good? You'd be amazed at the difference in sound quality between a good custom system and pretty much any Bose system out there :) It's night and day.

Appreciate all the positive feedback! Had to cancel on the show due to moving to a new house but there's others coming up. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Cheers all.

OE Bose in any vehicle is a pile of shit.

I sat in a buddies Q7 with the B&O and that blows all other OEM systems out of the water. I guess when an option costs like $10k though it better do it's job well.

Other than that though, I hate pretty much every other stock vehicles sound system, none even sound remotely good.

Haha yeah i did but i'm comparing this with "back in the day" so to say when cars didn't have audio systems at all....they were optional. I mean these systems/options have improved greatly within the last decade butt i also understand what you are saying. There will always be room for improvement in anything i gues [emoji1]

Bang and Olufsen makes some very good stuff (home obviously) but they are making a name for themselves in car audio now with Audi for sure. You can do some pretty amazing stuff when you can design a car around a sound system ;)

Definitely true (that they have improved greatly). Still suck though for the most part lol ;) But when you look at the auto industry as a whole and the improvements in technology... well we live in pretty cool times I have to say!
