How are exhaust turbines driven? The further away the turbo is from the exhaust ports, the lower the velocity and the lower the temperature. Both of which will result in turbo lag. Add to that the extra charge piping which will result in loss of boost pressure, and the lag will be higher than a comparable "regular" turbo.
If the fuel pump fails, your car dies and you get it towed. If your oil pump fails, oil will back up into the turbo leading to turbo failure. If the oil line leaks, you lose oil pressure and potentially the motor.
$1700 is not cheap for what they're giving you. Right now, anyone can put together the "kit" for less. It's a joke, all they're giving you is random universal mandrel bent piping, a turbo, wastegate, and air filter. Add the IC piping and IC itself, add injectors and engine management, add all the misc. stuff that comes up, and you're at $4.5K. Add another turbo and piping and such and you're at $6k. How is that a deal? I doubt you could even fit 2 turbos and related piping under there.
Edit: Just realized that the $1700 doesn't even include piping, that's another $350-$350 or BOV. So for $1700 they're just giving you a turbo, wastgate, flange (wow, $10), and oil pump/lines. That's an even worse deal. I'm not trying to be too negative, but price that stuff out yourself. It will be cheaper than what they're offering.
Years back, I did some custom turbo setups. This was when Squires was coming out. I looked into the STS stuff because it would have been easier than what I was doing, but after some research I figured that the negatives outweighed the positive.
Putting the turbos that far back is not really a positive, yes they're cooler. But the cooler turbo is more than offset by the loss of exhaust energy. Plus what happens if you run over a big puddle. The filter is now at the lowest point of the car. Putting the turbos in the engine bay isn't a problem if you properly shield everything.
I'm not trying to discourage you, but why not get a standard turbo kit? You'll save money, time, and headaches.
Well yeah I understand there is alot of piping involved but how is that a problem?
The filter I agree not the best spot for it. But I'll be it could be secure tightly for sure. but hey most people would think that putting the turbos in the rear would not be practical but ither but it does the job pretty well + easy install as you mentioned. About the oil pump failing. Really? I meant same as being concern about a fuel pump failing, just make sure you get a good one. Line getting crimps or leaks.. I mean seriously the price for this system is cheap.. If those are your main concerns just invest some money in it.
This kit is like $1700 single turbo find another (full) kit for that price.
If I go this route I will go TT.. Still cheaper than any other TT.. So the rest of the money I could invest it on fixing those lil problems.
Plus I alway hear that cooler engine with cooler air perform better.. Getting those 2 turbos out of the cramped engine bay will help alot with that problem..
Thanks for your opinion bro.. Kindly appreciated!
