Would a 10.5 wide wheels fit?

I am not too sure if it will. Need insight as I played with the calculator and thought about it and still just cannot quite get it.

20x10.5
43mm

How flush will that be? Am I overshooting it the fender at this point?:tears:

At 20x10 et45 (295 tire), I'm about as flush as I'd probably want to be before the tires start sticking out and kicking up debris. The other thing is that you're probably looking at a 305 wide tire, at which point cutting may be involved. I believe a few others have gone that route though and can give some better specifics on that.

Yes I know 265 might be assinine on a 10.5 wheel but I wanted to see clearances. So far it looks fine. Any concerns?

Sydney has a 2nd Gen. I don't think it is good to compare offsets with the 1st Gen.
The 1st Gen comes with 40mm and the 2nd Gen comes with 50mm.
It would be better to check your offsets and width with 1st Genners.

This is a photo of my wheels, camera is not available right now, sorry. They are "OZ Giotto III"

I plan on going with light weight 20" wheels, out of curiousity why are you going with 20's rather than 22's?

I came across a deal on these 20s. I will be back to 22s later on, but I plan on ordering some 3-piece forged wheels next time.

I think that there was a noticeable decrease in forward velocity with these 22s. It may be a perception though, as most others who drive or ride in the FX say it doesn't feel any slower. I know there is added rotational mass.

It looks to me like the inner clearance would not work with these 10.5" wheels as it will be 1.4" further towards he medial side of the FX. Honestly I would probably run a the OEM sized tires also (I have them and they are pretty new), and the stretched look will not thrill me either.

All around this is probably a bad idea lol. I am still on the fence though lol.

Got it. I read this article http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=10243.0;wap2 and it got me going. If rolling inertia means that much and I want to invest in wheels and tires anyway I'd like to push for the the performance (not only off the line but in the twisties as well :)). my personal issue is that I have a hard time dropping the fat cash necessary to bridge the gap between lightweight 20's and 22's. I'll roll the 20's and make up the diff with a bit more drop. Really interested to see what the difference will be from my stock wheels/tire at eighty Lbs. a corner and aftermarket at under 60......

and the stretched look will not thrill me either.

I think your instincts are right in avoiding the stretched OEM tire route. I too wondered if 22" created a noticeable difference in performance (good or bad) ... I'm assuming it goes both ways, based on the quality of the wheel/weight/weight distribution & location etc.

Interesting read Logan, thanks for posting. I spent a long time researching various lightweight wheels and quickly came to the same conclusion ... the bridge ($$$) betwen 20" and light 22" was too big for me. At one point I came extremely close to pulling the trigger on some 19" Advans, there's just a ton of quality lightweight wheels at that size to pick from ... wonder how small that would have looked.

I've been down this pathway too and staying with my stockers till I can find a reasonably priced lightweight 22" that I like. I've sort of given up looking, thinking the only way to go would be to have a custom set made.

I can tell you that the first gen FX has 93mm from hub face to fender.

10.5" wheels = 267mm, which means with a +0 offset, you have 133mm out from the hub. With a +38 offset (stock), the outer rim edge would would be at 95mm, which to me is PERFECT.

Ok final verdict was made by tirerack who said that the offset coupled with that width would not fit and would hit the suspension...

So it's a no go.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

me too ... Tirerack definitely leans toward the conservative side with their fitments. Not that this means this particular wheel will work or not, but it's worth investigating further if this was THE wheel for you :)
