So after watching the trim on my car fade and crack I decided to do something about it. I would like to know how Infiniti justifies charging extra for chrome molding? when its obvious that all of our cars come with it but it has been wrapped in crappy black vinyl from the factory!

Wow. Quite the discovery indeed. What about the rear quarter window? I am assuming that is painted, not vinyl. Might look a little off just having the door trim chrome. Do you have any better profile shots?
 
just doesn't seem right, turbocad repainted his black trim and I am sure he would of caught it while working on it.....
 
I bought my car brand new in April of 06 and I can am quite certain that the plastic is not just a dumb vinyl cover. When they replaced my trim, it look like a worn out plastic and looked nothing like vinyl.

Based on the pix, you trim has absolutely no gloss to it which tells me it has been vinyl covered. My trim had gloss on it and it looked like a shitty scratched up plastic.

Actually now that I think about it, when I removed my old trim on my 35 to add the chrome trim, it was just a metal piece. I did not see any chrome underneath it. So those may had been added somehow and the vinyl was placed on top of it.
 
My neighbor has an 06 and I was talking to him the other day and he was bitching about the trim and I noticed in one area it was rippled like it had the same covering as scfx does and he bought his brand new. I will take a pic tomorrow if hes around and you guys be the judge. Maybe i can talk him into peeling it off! HAHA

At a second look scfx I think has a sport model hence the silver roof rails! So maybe his was wrapped.
 
I saw another FX in a Publix parking lot this eve and the corner of theres is pealing as well with this chrome underneath!
 
interesting, I'm sure lots of FX35 owners will be checking their trims :smile (2):
 
SCFX AND RENHALTS neighbor both live in Florida. So do you guys the dealers changed them up, or it was shipped this way?
 
Idk, correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the sport have chrome trim and silver roof racks and the non sport have black trim and black roof racks? Because both SCFX and my neighbor both have silver roof racks and black trim, interesting. Im going to take a picture of my neighbors today and post it because his is rippled and I'm sure he will find the same underneath as SCFX has.
 
no way did it come from the factory with chrome door trim but black rear quarter window trim. Isn't the optional chrome molding not even chrome...I thought it was brushed
 
Check out the pics in my garage. I've got the sport and the trim over the windows is matte compared to the rest of the trim. I haven't checked, but I might have some chrome hiding on me as well.
