so i waxed my car other day and i screwed up by leaving part of the car in the sun and the wax stayed on the black plastic around the bottom of the car. is there anythng that will take that stuff off. it looks super fugly with the white spots. looks like my fx is a crackhead!!

anyone have any suggestions!!!??

WD-40, clay bar or Armor-All.

WD-40 works great for removing sap, tar, adhesives, etc so I imagine it'd take off excess wax too. If you have more time, try the clay bar with some spray instant detailer or water as lubricant. As a matter of fact clay bar the whole car before you wax. It makes a big difference.

Yep, Meguire's. It's safe on the plastic. I've used it on my headlight and tail light lens. I've also used it on my grill. Works just as well as on paint. Just make sure to spray enough quick detail.

Rubbing alcohol will take wax right off your plastic -- and your paint, so be careful. I always wax everything and don't pay attention to the plastic and just use the rubbing alcohol to remove any white waxy parts.

Turtle wax ice works great it goes on clear and wipes off easy you can do the whole car including plastic, glass etc...and you can apply it in direct sunlight although I prefer applying it in the shade. And no swirl marks leaves a glass like finish.

i've never tried the back to black on the lower plastics - only the window trim. i'm not sure how it would work on there. the back to black should cover it up definitely, but, when it wears off the chalky part will probably still be there.

i've never tried alcohol. it really works, huh? i have a couple small waxed plastic spots i'd like to take care of. i'm gonna have to try that.

i'd try the alcohol to clean it. then, if you want a fully detailed look, go with the aerosol tire shine. i've also used the other stuff that goes on with the applicator pad when i've wanted everything shiny. both work great and look great.

good answers everyone!

Yes, first try the alcohol to wipe off the wax. As others have put it, it is used by most detailers to strip old wax or polish off of the car. Make sure you mix it with water though. Do about 50:50 water/alcohol and wipe off with terry or MF towel. If that doesn't get everything out, I would try clay with quick detailer used as lubricant (clay is safe to use on clear coat, plastic, glass, and wheels). If you're going to use Mother's back to black, use it after the wax is all out. Poorboy's trim restorer also works great for faded trims. If you have a paint sealant handy, put a coat of it on after everything. They usually have a UV coating that protects the plastics from fading as fast. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Guys..Beinga detail buff and having tried many things..including the infamous peanut butter 0whch does owrk..but is just plain messy..
I can tell you all..two things:
Mothers Back to Black is a cover product not a corrector product.
It covers looks nice but lasts as long as a fire cracker fuse..

The best product used properly to removing wax residue from a grainy surface plastic or anything else is Mr Clean Magic Eraser soft scrub pads..wet a little and rub off that wax...do not over rub though..enough to get it off..
Effortless, non greasy like WD40..whch I do not recommend..

On detailcity.com where all the pros and enthusiasts hang ot on this art of detailing...
You have tons of info. on products, equipment, solutions and just an awesoem array of help...

I started a small business in custom detailing and this place was a good site to learn a lot of info.

So removing wax from moldiong...Mr Clean Magic eraser..flawless.Used it tons of times on my car...
Just outstanding..

Magic eraser is abrasive and will cause scratches on shiny plastic!
