Wax brand preference?

Hi all:

New to the forum and my FX, but not new to being seriously anal about detailing. I was just wondering what other folks were using as a "regular" cleaner wax. I prefer Zymol, but the trick is to use a damp applicator/cloth and not let it dry too much (i.e., panel by panel, rather than whole car).

BTW, I have a Beryllium metallic 2006 FX35....

I use Nu-Finish, the paste.
On Consumer Reports it was the 2nd best and Best Buy out of all the wax products tested.
First, of course, was Meguiar's NXT Generation 2.0292n sarl; akejlwejawe;lw nad yeahhh
anyway, I believe I have the ratings.. lemme find it

aaaand there ya go

Interesting. I've used Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 for a few years, but eventually switched to blackfire sealant and the stuff Wayne uses Zaino seems ridiculously awesome and found it to be much better.

I'm not sure how I feel about consumer reports rating waxes. The ratings and reviews by car buffs themselves I would say is best.

I prefer Zaino sealant for my FX because it lasts so long and is easy to apply. If you want a bit more shine you can top dress it with a good carnuba wax. I have used the liquid Nu Finish on my fiberglass boats and other vehicles for at least 15 years, it is a great liquid wax..

I prefer this stuff since it's actually made specifically for dark colored cars like black or grey:

I've been through every wax you can possibly think of and none of them measure up to this wax in terms of how long it lasts, how good it protects and brings out that wet look in paint, and ease of application. They also sell one dedicated to lighter colored vehicles too.

By the way no matter what wax you choose always wash and clay bar first to remove any previous wax or sealant buildup on the clear coat so you can start with a fresh surface. Then proceed to apply the wax with a foam applicator pad.

Funny.....I've not had experience with Poor Boys. Will have to check it out. Do you have a preferred place of purchase?

One thing that I wonder about....Zymol (my current preference) is very easy to get off the plastic trim (wheel arches, etc)....especially when damp. How do the other makes compare? Zymol also removes tar very nicely (even compared to clay bar).

Thanks!

Steve

Here are new pics from today's wash and wax (Zymol)....

I work at a body shop, so we use the 3M line. 4 Steps from cut to show shine. At home I do the same, but I can grow tired from doing it so much at work. So it's not done as often as it should. Poor Lola... I do really like the Meguiars Next Generation Tech Wax Spray! With a healthy Microfiber It's perfect for a quick glossy clean before you roll out of the driveway. If you do a regular clay bar bath, which is one thing I don't skip out on, will make the paint cleaner and smoother requiring less maintanance/effort to keep clean.

I totally agree with the comment on the durability and the shine of nattys blue. I've only tried a few different brands but I like the poor boys nattys blue most. I used the regular nattys paste wax when I had a silver car and it really shined.

the last time I bought it, I bought from autogeek.net so I'm assuming they still sell the poor boys line.

I made this not long ago for my g35. Based on everyones opinions this was the best bang for your buck. Obviously you can go out and buy $300 wax that will probably do better job, But i cant afford that so. Here you go![TABLE="width: 589"]

Off topic, but when you wax, is it ok to get wax over the chrome and plastic lower pieces of the car?

No, wax has a tendency to fade the black plastic trim on the outside. If you get it on the chrome that's okay cause it just wipes off. Just don't get it on the plastic.
