Took my car to the local dealer for a oil change and they said i should replace the water pump. They said the water pump was only good for 100k. Has anyone ran into this problem or has replaced there water pump?

No idea, but I have 120k and no replacement.

I can understand the preventive need of it, according me the pump is completly internal and if a seal blows you fill the oilpan with coolant.
That causes bigtime problems for the complete engine.

well why dont you just put a motor in it? i mean, what if it throws a rod tomorrow? better safe than stranded.

fxfix... Hesperia here too..we should have a 2 car meet..lol

A water pump is going to cost him $80, and new thermostat is another $20. If he has to change his thermostat later..he's going to incur all the same labor charges, and new coolant again. It is cheaper to do the thermostat now, than to sit around and wait for it to go bad. He is already at 100K miles...it is just part of preventive maintanence. Just like replacing your belts and your spark plugs...do you wait for them to fail? or do you change them before they cause a major issue?

I agree with toy4x, why wait for something to fail.
As everybody knows such stuff will break down in the most unconvienent time of the year when you don't expect it.
Better safe then sorry!

Just getting to 153,000 miles, never replaced the water pump or thermostat. Just noticed that you guys are all on FX35's. Ay idea if the same recommendation goes for the '45?

Most of the time a water pump goes, it is either a leaky shaft seal, or a broken or worn impeller. I'd have to look at the manual to see what is affected by the gasket. It seems weird that a failed gasket would contaminate the crankcase

Probably going to proactively change the radiator hoses, thermostat and a few other things when I change the plugs and the serpentine belt during this summer. I'll evaluate then whether I want to change the water pump as well.

Right now, I concentrating on replacing the front wheel bearing hub assemblies, and deciding what tires I want to go to instead of the Goodyear Eagles.

If you have oil in your spark plug wells = new valve covers.

replacing the radiator after the top seal failed. changing out the hoses, thermostat, and water pump. the fan blades looked a bit exhausted also. might replace that.

To me thats just recommend time for you to change it according to the manufacture. You have people that can drive for 200 plus miles and will not have a problem with the water pump it all depends

water pump was still in good shape, replaced it anyway. except sheared one of the bolts used to hold it down. I was lucky and backed it out once it started to shear. Gotta get a new bolt now.
