My wife was driving home yesterday, and the VDC off, Slip, and Service Engine Soon lights all came on. The vdc and slip turned off, but SES is still on.

Took it to the nearest dealer ( happens to be Nissan ) and they say I have about 5-6 different codes coming up. Dealer says it's most likely the Throttle Position Sensor, but with all the codes..they're not sure. They say because I have my groundwire kit on, that it might influence these other codes.

The TPS is covered by powertrain warranty, but since they're saying I have a grounding kit, it might have caused the TPS to fail. So now their keeping the car overnight and going to drive it again in the morning. If these other codes come up again, they want me to come down and remove the kit, (or pay them to do it) to find out the true codes, and they will not cover under warranty if the TPS is bad. ( they can't anyways to find out, Infiniti has to do it )

Nissan dealer is basically saying my grounding kit is shorting out causing all these false codes. Can this be true?

I would take off the ground wire and take it to a Infiniti dealer. But are you under warranty still (04)?

I dont see why a ground would cause a code. (im sure you are thinking the same)

powertrain is still under warranty....5 yr 60,000

I'm at 4.5yrs and 39,000

I just got off the phone with Cheryl, and its not covered anyways....so I'm going to see what this dealer says and just find the cheapest place to buy the part. Probably have to buy a new TBody. Found one on ebay for $200 brand new.

The one thing about the ground wire is that there is no electrical current flowing through it. for the dealer to say that means they will do anything to get money from the consumer. they really have to prove that is the cause, unless you have a connect bolted to a sensor and I doubt you have that as an issue. even then it shouldn't be a problem. that sounds like my tranny issue the dealer tried to say the TQ caused the issue when in reality a loose connection can cause codes to appear as if there was a problem based on the mechanics IQ to place things back correctly to include harnesses. sorry for the rant but make sure you are going to a place that's knowledgable and mod friendly that understands the works on what you have installed.

metro fixed mine for free:confused: this time last year... died on the way home from a mammoth trip. mileage was prolly around 55k but i do have the extended warranty

Copied from Dave's thread:

This is exactly where my Grounding point is on the TB.

REALLY wish I had the extended warranty right now!

Kind of thinking this dealership's just taking my money. I didn't know that Nissan is not certified to work on Infiniti vehicles. The service advisor didn't tell me that until 6 hours after I dropped it off.

So like I said, waiting for them to tell me what to fix, taking my car, and doing it myself. Or after talking to Cheryl form Metro, might take it over there to see what she can do...

Mine was the same back in November......

VDC/Slip/CEL all on.
I turned off the car and turned it back on - the VDC/SLIP turned off but the CEL stayed on.

My problem turned out to be a bad ground terminal

InfinitiScene.com - View Single Post - "Service Engine Soon" WTF?

hmm could be....that'd be hell of alot cheaper to fix....I'll check all my terminals and Gpoints when I get my car back.

Glad you are getting some where with finding the cause Andrew. I don't know what happened to my earlier post on this thread, it should have been the 2nd reply, hmm....

Nissan Dealer cleared the codes and took car for a test drive today. They got nothing now. Car is running fine, but if CEL comes back on, take off my GW kit and bring it back in.

Codes that came up:

P2135 - Throttle Position Sensor
P1815 - Manu Mode Sw/Circ
P1754 - I/C Solenoid Fnctn
P1705 - TP Sen/Cip A/T
C1131 - Engine Signal 2 (ABS)
B2118 - Tilt Sensor
B2013 - Strg Comm1 (intelligent Key)

Wow, my Mogwai must have gotten some water on her!

Bringing this thread back..

I've been having problems again, for a while. I could be driving for any amount of time, I come to a stop and when the light turns green or making a turn...the the car has nothing. Hit the gas and nothing happens. Car idle's fine, but the slip/vdc lights light up. I have to turn the car off and restart, then the vdc and slip lights are gone but my SES light turns on.

Took the FX over to Metro Infiniti this morning, and they found codes P2135 x 12 times ( throttle Body) and U1001 x 1 time ( Can System). They are replacing my throttle body under powertrain warranty.

The U1001, they want me to replace the ECM's ground cable. I'm not going to do that just yet. Reading on InfinitiHelp, they say u1001 can pop up because the ECM wasn't able to communicate with a sensor or control module. Since this Error Code only has come up on 1 start-up... maybe it couldn't communicate with the TB sensor since it was out of whack. Or it might have happened this morning when I took off my ground wire kit off my TB.( I don't want to give them any excuses not to replace the TB under warranty)

Cheryl is giving me a great deal to replace the ECM ground wire, but I just don't see the need just yet. If the Error code comes back after the TB replacement, then I'll get it done.

**crosses fingers**

Good luck with this Andrew. Hopefully, the ECM ground issue was caused by your Bertolitis oversight  with the bolt, lol and once you get fixed all will be well.
