VDC and SLIP lights come on at 45mph

I know Doc and HKSFX35 both had the problem where VDC, Slip, and Break lights where on. I just noticed that when I hit 45MPH, the VDC and SLIP lights come on.

When I pull over and turn the engine off, and start again, they go away and as soon as it his 45MPH they're back on.

Just to mention that I just finished installing Turbocad's Paddle Shifter and I noticed this during the test drive.

The paddle shifters work correctly without any problems. I'm certain that there are not shorts on the wiring and there were no problems getting it installed.

They only thing that I think may be there problem is the Steering wheel position. I did a 4 wheel alignment about a week ago and noticed that the SLIP and VDC lights were on when the Tech was done. He said that it would go away when I hit 45, and it did. He also mentioned if my steering wheel is not straight to go back and he'll fix it.

I wonder when I was putting the Steering-wheel back on I put it one notch over. Could that cause this?

did you transfer the position sensor switch from your old switch holder to the new? plug it in?

don't know if it's off will it set these lights, but if it's off/not straight & everything else is good, I'd try to set it straight & see... never had a problem like this... I'm thinking maybe you forgot to transfer the switch or plug it in...

How are your brakes?
I had something similar after installing the paddle shifter (I forgot which light it was) but that was because I started the the car when I was not finished installing everything, but this went away pretty quick.

his is not on when he starts the car, it comes on after he drives... different issue. you turned your ign on with the box unplugged which kicked your CE light on I think from what I remember...

Isn't the Position sensor the piece that I have to remove from the Old assy. to the new one. It is on with 3 screws and has a plug with a Metal brace. The Plug has a separate screw.

I did that, in fact, I had to make sure that the white tabs are turned so they fit the Keyed center piece and the Pin is aligned to go into the hole. Once installed, there where 4 plugs in the back. The new plug which is the phone jack, the two that are stuck together, and the position sensor plug.

Is that not right? What does the Position do? Maybe, it's not needs repositioning??? (lol)

yeah, I think it should fit in only one way, if you transfered it & plugged it in then it's not that I guess...

hard to say what your issue is... we would assume it has to do with the work you just done, but it's not impossible that it's a coincidence too... I know that low brake fluid can kick on the lights mentioned, but I can't see how that would only be triggered at above 45mph... strange...

It is strange. What I did not pay attention to last night was the position of the steering wheel. I'm gonna check to make sure it's straight. If not it's got to be it.

I also have a problem with the light. But mine just goes on, steady, after I run the car a bit hard. Slip or no slip, not that I notice, it goes on & stays until I shut her down for a few minutes. No noticable drivability changes with the light on, but it does bug me. Any ideas? (sorry for the hijack Fred)

No problem dave. Hijack all you want. (lol) as long as someone figures this out.

Have you done a wheel alignment lately?

No I havnt. I'm running true.
The only mod was the wheels swap & reprogramming sensors . . but I've only noticed the light coming on in the past couple months, otherwise, I've been running my current setup for at least 7-8 monthes.

New interesting info. I drove by the dealership and had one of the Techs put a code reader on it. they could not find anything. however, the tech tool a quick look at the Steering whell and the wheels and said that they are not centered. He said that I need to take it back to for them to recaliberate the sensor.

I wonder if I can clear the code by doing a ECU reset? If I do that, I wont lose my tune will I? That should be writen to the ROM and it's not something that is learned right?

That's correct. ECU reset will not affect your custom maps. I also highly doubt that an ECU reset will clear the TPMS. If the centering has anything to do with the monitors, it will likely need to be paired again using the correct hardware . . outside of the ECU. That's just my guess.

I took the steeringwheel off again and made sure the it lined up. I test drove it one more time while driving I let go of the wheel and it drove straight and the Steering wheel was level. So unless there is a sensor that is tripped and needs to be reset, it's no longer the an adjustment issue.

How can anyone tell if a wheel is centered just by visually looking at a wheel well. Like . . how off could it be anyway, & how would that throw the VDC light?

oops, you meant steering wheel. Your fault . . learn how to spell, Fred.
Besides, The steering wheel has nothing to do with the running gear, in as far as being level or not.

I'm assuming that the the sensor in behind the Steering column has a caliberation that knows when it's centered. When you're driving, VDC trys to correct your motion by comparing the possition of the wheel to it's caliberation. If the Caliberation is off, it cannot do the correction.

I'm guessing.

oh it can be off, last guy that did my last alignment happened to move the wheel mid way through the alignment, now, instead of exacly at 12 O'clock dead straight it's tillted slightly to the right, not too bad but annoys me, but I'll align it agin soon after I cut my struts & straighten it out

even with my wheel slightly off center no issues though... if yours didn't have a code for a wheel position sensor I guess that's good, at least it looks like nothings broken, wonder wtf it can be...

Like I mentioned before, last week after the alignment, VDC and Slip were on when the alighnment was done. I mentioned it to the guy, and he said they'll go off when you drive it. and they did. I haven't taken it to the FWY yet. I'll do that now that I have re-centered it.

I also niticed that the Paddel shifter/turn signal assy. was not centered either. It's probably what threw me off in the first place. I oppend the 3 screws that hold the metal plate, and adjusted it so it's level. The picture you provided, does not have any room for adjustments (green Circles) but mine has about 2mm of play and uses smaller screws. Also, The area that needs to be trimmed was wrong in the picture. This is the area I had to trim to make the Actuators go in.

Never heard of a 'wheel centered position sensor' on the FX . . then again, I've never looked beyond the infiniti logo on the airbag cover :zip:
