I figured I would share my experiences with the TUF Shine Tire Clearcoat product. Last weekend, I followed the instructions closely and very thoroughly cleaned the tires, allowed them to dry, and then applied two coats of TUF Shine, making sure to get the product in all the nooks and crannies of the lettering and pattern on the sidewall. Within ten minutes of the second coat, it was perfectly dry to the touch. After it was dry, I washed the wheels and tires to get the extra product off the wheels and smooth out the finish on the tires. The final product looked like this:

This week, I drove in the rain twice with little change in the look of the tires. Yesterday, I ended up driving down a dusty gravel road for about 1.5 miles to go mountain biking. The car and tires were covered in dust after being parked there for half the day. When I came back, I was able to wipe the dust off the tire with my finger as the tire is truly dry to the touch.

I came back and washed the tires and wheels with a soft brush and car wash (you are supposed to use mild cleaners). This is what it looks like today and keep in mind it's overcast, as well:

I'm pretty pleased. It's slightly more matte than it was on the first day, which I actually don't mind at all. They look and feel clean and dark black, but not truly "wet".

It was a little more work to apply this product, but if it continues to look this nice, it will have been worth the time and cost of the kit.

I'll keep you posted...

Two Week Update:

Pretty much same as last week. One good rainstorm that I drove in this week plus another day of just wet roads. Yesterday, I was down the same gravel road to mountain bike again. I washed the tire with car wash and hosed it off. Here is how it looked.

There were some very, very minor scuff marks on the shoulders of the tire (where the tread meets the sidewall) if you were looking closely at the tires from the gravel road, and, since I won't be back to that same MTB location soon, I decided to see how touching the tires up would go. I simply wiped on a small amount to the shoulders (I did not clean the tire with the tire cleaner product again), let it dry, and washed and dried the tires to smooth out the finish.

I didn't really need to do this yet, but I was curious how it would go. It was very easy; maybe 10 minutes tops for all 4 tires. If I stayed off gravel roads, there would have been zero reason to do it at all.

Oh, I was in need of some car wash when I ordered the TUF Shine, so I ordered some Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II at the same time. It's the best car wash I have ever used! Very sudsy, very concentrated, and cleans grime off the paint very well.

Here is a link to the car wash: http://www.detailedimage.com/Chemical-Guys-M31/Maxi-Suds-P224/128-oz-S2/

I'll continue to keep you posted on the TUF Shine.

Thanks! The idea is to spread the word.

It's almost like an optical illusion. They look wet, but they are totally dry to the touch. I think that's the secret to success here. It doesn't attract dust and dirt or sling off.

Another update:

So we are coming up on a month now since the TUF Shine application. I fully detailed the exterior today and only washed the tires with car wash soap. Nothing else. Still looks damn dark and clean. Amazing!

I been using this stuff for about 2 weeks as well and Davids review is right on the dot. This stuff is awesome, lasts so long and is dry to touch. This is truly ground breaking stuff and I recommend this to everyone with out a doubt.

Another point:

I did my girl's CR-V yesterday, in the sun, which the bottle specifically says not to do. It definitely doesn't come out as well. It's a little blotchy and not uniform. It was easily fixed by applying another coat of product after the sun went down and the tires were cool, but don't do what I did and waste it! It's too expensive to waste!

I like a matte look myself, so I actually think it looks better now than when I applied it. It's still very black, just not really wet looking. I'm very happy. Now I wonder how long it will last...maybe we should start a poll.

6 WEEK UPDATE:

Still have not reapplied any TUF Shine. Overcast conditions, so it looks better than this photo represents.
