Hi:

I have a FX50s with 7000 miles.
i had problems with the automatic transmission. the Nissan Representative is taking care of it, and the problem seems to be the Converter. Of course i have no Warranty here and i have to pay almost 10k in a new tranny because infiniti doesn't sell only the converter.
does anybody knows where can i contact to have some aid or if i can buy the converter only?

thanks.

I am guessing you are referring to the torque converter? If Infiniti does not sell the TC alone and I do not see it available online. Then I think it would be very difficult for you to locate a TC by itself since the 50s is pretty new model. You will probably end up having to purchase a whole new tranny. I do not think other model year FX TC's will fit your 50s.

In fact, it is the torque converter. isn't strange that it broke up with 7k miles?
I live in South America, and the warranty doesn't cover that vehicle.
Is there any place like a headquarter to explain my problem.
the service is being held by Nissan Rep and they have it right now.

thanks

Infiniti is known to be quite bad on the customer service in general. I can't believe their warranty policy for South America does not cover the drive train. Did you buy it locally or imported privately? If you bought locally, you should try to file a complaint through your local business bureau (BBB).

i bought it in Miami, and then shipped to South America by myself. I've paid 150 k for this car including duties and taxes. Always maintained in Nissan Representative. The fact that the car is located in South America isn't an excuse. IT'S STILL A INFINITI. they don't think globally. they suck!!! i'm going to buy a GERMAN car and get rid of this P.O.S.

Im not sure if there are any companys out there that do this for infiitis yet but see if you could have the torque converter rebuilt. It is comon to rebuild them for performance vehicles so maybe you could find somebody local to do it to save some money.

I'm curious what kind of driving you've done with the car there in Uruguay? Having the tranny go out in 7k miles seems very odd. You do realize that manufacturers will not cover components under warranty if they find they were abused or utilized outside of the normal conditions of the vehicle (such as a track or say excessively rough driving.) They can read back a lot of info from the on-board computers as well.

I'm not accusing but curious.

Never on a track. Never.
Just citi and Highway. But if i can't accelerate and go at high speed with it, is better to sell it. i like to go fast. i bought a 390hp car, not an electric car.
With Porsche, BMW or Mercedes i don't have this problem. In fact i have BMW X6 and the warranty covers everything even if i buy it outside my country. this is global thinking and brand protection. Infiniti gave me Nothing.

Did you buy it from a Certified Infiniti Dealer in Miami or an individual?

You paid 90K to export a 60K passenger vehicle to S. America () and you're worried about a 10K transmission?

You may want to do a bit more research. If you buy a BMW, or Mercedes, or just about any car, ship it internationally, you will either 1) completely lose your warranty or have it reduced to the absolute minimum required for that country.

In any case it's fairly hard to be sympathetic here as it would be fairly reasonable to assume you would check out things like warranty coverage when you are about to spend 150k on a car (which is pretty hard to believe).

White Hair: Thank you for your comment. The dealer (certified dealer in Miami) told me that if i bring it back to the US the warranty is OK. That is: 1,5 months shipping to Miami, 1-2 weeks Dealer, 1,5 months shipping back. Almost 4 months. too much time.
Santiago: you have to do some research. BMW, Mercedes and Porsche respect the warranty here. Infiniti does not exist!!!!! and (clever boy) here we pay 130% in Duties and taxes. So i had to pay for it 150K+New Tranny. S U C K S!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically you paid 150k for an fx50 with limited warranty or no warranty at all! Dude sorry to hear that, I would be pissed off too!!! with the money like that you could have gotten a Porche Cayenne or BMW X5 M if you really like speed unless you have to ship them internationally then that's more money!! I hope infiniti would be considerate and resolve your issue.... Good luck

I really feel your pain budd. Any chance you can get some tranny upgrade and get someone to fix up the torque converter? I don't know if those Lv10 tranny upgrade including torque converter upgrade done by some other IS members will be able to help you fixing that tranny with lower impact to your pocket.

Or even get a new tranny and ship it back? Like contacting Joe from Infinitipartsusa.com?

Or if you can wait, send it back to US and get it fixed up and sell it.

I did do research, which is why I made my comments. BMW and Mercedes do not honor the US warranty there or anywhere overseas if the car is shipped. At best you will end up with a 1 year warranty, in most cases, but specifically you will have the warranty for that country NOT the warranty from the originating country. If there is no warranty in a country you get no warranty (unless you ship it back). But what BMW and Mercedes does or doesn't do is besides the point.

While it's painful to have what you believe to be a warranty issue with your car one would assume you knew there was no warranty coverage before you made the purchase? As you said "Infiniti does not exist here..." So now that you have a problem it's Infiniti that sucks?

As others have stated you took a risk when purchasing the vehicle. It's NOT Infiniti's problem and my issue is with your posts slamming Infiniti for not honoring a warranty where they have no warranty coverage, or presence, as you stated.

I too feel your pain but I have to assume your anger against Infiniti is really anger and frustration that you didn't check their warranty coverage beforehand?

In any case, what about shipping the car to another country closer? I assume it's under a year old? All you should have to do is send it to the closest country that has coverage.
