I took my car in for regular service 37,500 miles, lately i been hearing my belts sound making a cricket sound when i first start it up on cold start. my service advisor said that my belts are dry cracking and to change both belts would be $300 is this a good price or would be be easlier to just buy the belts and have someone put them on? would like to hear you guys input on what i should do before i call him back..

Don't pay the dealer. Belts are cheap and it's one of the easiest things to do. So do it yourself in like 30 minutes, or pay a shop for the time, but not the dealer.

The 2 belts are easy to change and cost under $60 for both. You could also inspect the belts yourself.

thanks thats what i wanted to hear

do i need to buy the oem belts or i can just walk into like a autozone and buy them from there?

It's actually easier since it uses a spring loaded auto-tensioner. Just need a 3/8" ratchet on the square hole on the auto-tensioner, push it in the direction as indicated on the arrow. Take the belt off auto-tensioner pulley while pushing on auto-tensioner. Just be sure you put the belt back on correctly. Then push on the auto-tensioner and slide the belt over the auto-tensioner pulley.

Here is 2nd Gen FX35 VQ35HR belt path. Number 3 is the auto-tensioner in the diagram.

Oh, just learn that there is a holding-boss that you can insert a 6mm allen wrench or metal bar to lock the auto-tensioner so that you can all the time you need to snake the belt on. Once the belt is snaked properly, install the ratchet back on the square hole on the auto-tensioner, give it a push and pull the 6mm allen wrench off the holding-boss.

Here is a diagram where you would insert a 6 mm Allen wrench into the holding boss to lock the auto-tensioner.

300 bucks dealers have officially lost it
i guess the dealers are now hearing what everyone has to say lol

Should open up a shop just doing belts for $200+parts!

Here's the OEM belt, pretty expensive. http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/Infiniti-FX35-Drive-Belt-2009-2012-p/11720jk20a-7.htm

Some other options here, and you can search the part numbers for pricing elsewhere: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1444671,parttype,8900

lol to pretty expensive part and Thanks i am going to order the oem belt and worry about finding somewhere to put it on when it comes, also i guessing it just one belt and he (my advisors) told me two smh.

If you want to be sure the chirping sound you hear is coming from the belts-
spray some water on the belts and start the fx, if the chirping sound disappears temporarily then its
your belts.
but yeah 300 is high, my dealer charges 230.
