Hey guys,

So I have 18" rims and haven't really thought about what 20" wheels I want. With that being said I'm looking for a good summer tire.

Can I get out of 265/60/18? There is next to nothing in this garbage specification. I don't mind a stiffer ride, I want something sporty.

Whats interested me so far staying in same specs; http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...6VR8RH07&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Tires: the Yokohama Spec X and the Hankook you pick out are among the favorites here. Check out this post on the tires.

Wheels: I personally think, 18" wheels on the FX is too small. At least a 20" will give a better look and handling. 22" will give to the "wow" factor for sure. I would save up on at nice set of 22" wheels and tires if your current tires are in decent condition.

Well if the 22"s will make that much of a difference I guess I will save. I'm just not sure what color I want my wheels to be.

My FX35 is black and I planned on doing high gloss black/flat matte black combination on all the chrome and roof rack.

Or I was going to do gunmetal for all the chrome. And do gunmetal rims

So I'm kind of at loss what color combination I want for chrome/wheels.

Also, what are the wheel brands to stay with/away from?

You can always photoshop some first to get a slight idea, with a black car both black or gunmetal wheels will work great, it's all about the details and what pieces you think of "marrying".

F.ex. On my FX I decided to match my wheels with my grille and to finish the look am painting the rocker panels and fender fish trim the same color.

Also if you're gonna go with matte finish on the chrome pieces the wheels would probably make sense being matte as well and vice versa

Hey, thanks for the help! I found these, is this a good brand? Looks very nice, IMO.

American Racing is a brand that's been around for a while. Mostly cast wheels, a lot more popular in domestic market. I personally don't like any of their styles, but quality is fine.

FWIW, Tire Rack has a very, very limited selection of wheels and for the most part their styles are very outdated. Great company, great place to buy tires, but the wheels are meh. Do some more searching and you'll discover an entire world of wheels out there.

Yeah, totally agree with what shadow said. Look around, there plenty of wheels out there. Find a few you like and post up on here for some opinion if you can't decide on which to go with.

Oh, and if you want a wheel with lip like that one, you need to go 22". 20" will look tiny with a lip, especially on a 2nd gen. If you go with 20"s, make sure you get something that is full face which basically means the spokes go to the edge of the wheels and there is no lip.

Thanks for all the advice. Will continue to research and look around. Question, I am looking at 22" wheels, should that be 22x8.5 or 22x9.5? And regarding the offset, I have AWD, so I'm not really sure what different offsets I'll need? Or spacers?

I don't plan on lowering it any time soon. I'm new to this. I do as much research as possible, but still learning.

Anything from a 9-10.5" would be fine. You can use 8.5", but that's rather narrow and will limit your selection of tires. You could go wider like 11", but at that width, it's mostly multi-piece wheels and it's expensive. 9-10.5 is the widest range of manufacturers and styles.

Comparing 20" to 22". Considering I am in Chicago and about every 10 feet there's 5inch wide and deep pot holes. I also want to maintain the sportiness, traction, cornering . Plus, I'm sitting on 18"s right now so any up seems better. I just don't think I want to drop the extra $200 for 22"s when I would be happy with 20"s.

I think this high gloss black would look nice. The wheels get great reviews too. I would be looking at the 20x10 size. However, I am not sure about the offset for running the fronts and backs? The same??

Well after searching, 22"s are only about 80-100 more.

On the FX, it's a moot point which wheel provides more protection. Even with a 20" wheel, you have a 45 or 50 series sidewall which at 265 width is more than most cars get stock. So if you hit a pothole that will dent a wheel with that much sidewall, you probably broke something else too. With a 22" wheel, you get either 35 or 40 series sidewalls and that is still a very tall sidewall. I ran 22"s for 3 + years and never ever damaged a tire or wheel. I now run 20"s, but with smaller sized tires than stock and still fine.

The ride will be slightly better on 20"s, but it's not really more protection. FX's don't really run low profile tires. On my BMW, the tires are 245/30/20 and 285/25/30...that's low profile and I have to be careful. On a previous car, I was running 225/35/20's and that required a lot of care as well. But when I had 22"s, my rear was 295/35/22 which is tall. I ran over curbs with that setup and never damaged it. Neither did metal plates, potholes, dirt roads.

Thanks for the great insight! How much ride quality will I sacrifice moving up to the 22"s? I know I'll take a hit in gas mileage, traction, sharp Corning. Is it a noticeable difference?

Wider tire with give you a planted feel, but definitely will take a toll on gas mileage. The gas mileage is very minimal though. In my opinion, ride quality is almost negligible between 265/50/20 and 285/40/22. I would go with 22" in a heart beat.

Being that if I go with 22"s I'm going to spend the extra cash to make sure I love them since I'll be using 18"s in the winter.

Here are my narrowed choices. ygezudep.jpg

The FKethos are about $209/wheel while the lexani r-fours are roughly $400/wheel..... Would you recommend doing a tire/wheel combo? Or buying them separate? My issue is taking it to a place and knowing my luck they fuck up the wheel.

The difference between the two lexani's is gloss black or matte black.

Hey guys. Still doing some searching because I want some gunmetal options. Since I'm new at this, what is this exactly? Which one do I choose or one would be right for me?

Bolt pattern is 5/114.3. And I bought my wheels/tires separately since I needed TPMS sensors swapped. If you buy new sensors, you can get the package.

Man I love those 20"s you have an I have a guy offering them to me for 280 a wheel. Good price?

For STR 607"s, not a good price. They go for $200 per wheel typically. Check out A-spec wheels, they're a sponsor on the G35 forums and where I got mine. I think retail isn't even $280 a wheel.

Wow man. Nice hookup $1450 for 4 wheels, 4 Yokohama parada spec-x shipped. $181 per tire/wheel avg.
