Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm looking to get some staggered 22x10 and 22x10.5 wheels and I was wondering what size tires I would need to have no issues with AWD? I know the rolling diameter has to be within 3%. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks

If you're getting 10 and 10.5" wheels, you'd be fine with just getting the same size tire like a 285/35/22 or 265/40/22. The wheel width difference is so small that if you got different size tires, it would probably look a little funny since one would bulge more than the other. Or you could get 285/35/22 front and 295/35/22 rear.

Thanks shadow, that's what I was thinking too. I really appreciate your help

Shadow what is the rolling diameter of the 265/40/22 and the 285/35/22?

Go 285/35/22 or 305/35/22 in my opinion. 265/40 is too narrow for my tastes. I love 305s but very difficult to find these tires in stock.

265/40 is 30.34" diameter. 285/35 is 29.75". I would run 285/35 on a 10" or 10.5" wheel. 305/35 looks good on a 10.5", but in the front it would be a little fat on a 10" wheel. And it might rub since the front doesn't have the room of the rear. You could of course run 295/35 and 305/35 combo, but good luck finding those sizes. I don't think any manufacturer makes both.

I've run 285-295-305/35 on a 10.5" wheel. 285 looks decent, but is a little stretched depending on tire brand (I had Toyo's which run small). 295 fits very well and is what I have right now (Yokohama Advans). 305's look great and beefy, but if your offset is aggressive you'll rub because it's taller. I had Pirelli Scorpions which run large as well.

You'll find the most brands in 285, it's pretty standard.

Thanks shadow your the man. If I do 265/40/22 up front and 285/35/22 rear, would that work or just keep it 285/35/22 front and back?

I would just run 285/35 on all 4. With a half inch wheel difference, it will look fine. If you got 265's on the front, it would be more stretched than the 285 on the rear and that can look funny.

i would go with 285's for protection as well. The important part is finding the widest tire. Some tire threads are 285 but look 265. I would suggest asking around which 285 was the widest. I would think pirellis and nittos will look the widest.

You can google how tires are sized - small/true/large. From my experience, Toyo is on the small size, Pirelli is very large, BFG runs a bit large, Nitto seems small. Falkens run a bit small too, and Yokohama is pretty accurate. But there's a big list/spreadsheet out there somewhere.

No issues at all. As long as you're within tolerances for the front and rear difference. You could run 13" lowrider wheels or 26"s and the AWD system doesn't know as long as the tires are almost the same size. It's when there's a big enough differential that the wheels start spinning at difference speeds that you get an issue. I saw on the other forum a guy with an FX45 had issues, but he was running something crazy like 265/35 and 305/40 so his wheels were 2" difference in height. The FX's don't seem to be as sensitive as some other cars in terms of the AWD system. I've run several different sized rear tires while keeping the front the same and never had an issue.

Thanks guys, so def no issues with AWD running 285's?

Haha, you're welcome. I've just done a lot of trial and error over the years on different cars with wheels, tires, and spacers. Basically I like low cars and slightly aggressive wheels. My wife is totally fine with that, but her one rule is that it can't rub (or at least not much). So I spend a lot of effort to balance that.

Thanks shadow you know a lot about wheels and tires haha

Rip, tonight I saw a 2nd Gen in my town with 22s on it and he was running 305s front and back, those tires were humungous, looked good but there was a bit of poke. He had them on 10" wide rims. I asked him what the offset was and he didn't know.
He also had all the lower body moldings painted body color.
It looked pretty good, wish I had my camera. I gave him an :iS: Card.

RIP, let I want to ride in your so I can also sneak a peek at the girls

I would go with 285/35/22 on all four on the conservative size. If you really want to excites the girls, 285 front 305 rear will be killer look. I think 305 in the front gonna be a bit hefty with the steering.

Way to go tieh :iS: card, Wayne. :good:
