So this is the 2nd time I gotta take it all apart again for the bearing. 10K & need new bearing!? :embarrassed:
Anyone else having this fail?
I cant figure this out. Struts/Springs are installed to Eibach spec. HELP

Soons got H&R.
On your third!!? Were some or all the bearings out? Same side?

Yes, i'm on H&R's and same driver's side where some bearings got loose. I truly believe it's installed improperly. I should have the 3rd install within a month, been busy.

then you're thunk thunk like me right now.
I bought 2 bearings cuz last time I changed one, it was also the drivers side, but sounded like the pass side bad.

on soons I think the problem first time was def the mechanics screwup in transfering the old bearing, but then second time he got a brand new one... hard to see how a mechanic could have screwed up the second time with a new bearing too but it seems that's the most likely thing there too, as it started making noise pretty soon after it was changed I think... I would doubt it has anything to do with the strut brace having an efffect on it...

I guess it's broken:wub::wink (2):

honestly I'm not sure, in soon's case I am assuming installer error to some extent, but it's so simple to do with a new bearing that it's hard to imagine how they could have even screwed that up... opening up the strut to change the spring I could see how guys may screw up the original bearing, but even with a new one?? not so sure what could have went wrong there, best that can be done is open, inspect & replace it again...

You guys have a pic of the replacement bearing by any chance? I just finished doing my front springs. One bearing came out good and the other poped open but i managed to put back in all the bearings and poped it back together.

I orderd replacement bearings from infiniti parts but they sent me some plastic bearing. Which was gray in color. I'll get a pic for you guys in a bit.

I just didn't trust what they sent compared to the factory bearing.

How do you diagnosis this? Can you hear it -- if so what is the sound.

thunk thunk when you turn the wheel L & R. Basically, bad bearing sound, metal to metal. You do not need to be rolling to hear or feel it.

I just looked at the exploded view of the strut assembly and have a few more possibilities, all of which focus on the bearing not seating properly. I can't think of any other reason the same side would be consistantly wearing out so quickly.
1) Missing/Additional parts. (the bearing is being compressed abnormally by an incorrect assembly)
2) Warped base plate (the one just below the bearing)
3) Bent strut shaft/damaged threads on strut shaft. (preventing the top nut from being adequately tightened)

How loud of a thunk is it and how much can you feel it? My '05 has a minor thunk that I can mostly feel when I turn the wheel L & R. I don't feel it everytime I turn the wheel but enough that I have noticed it. I don't recall it doing it when I bought it in February. It feels like minor play in the steering rack or something along those lines.

nice list. I will check & get back, that's if I can see anything wrong. I dunno even which side it is yet.

it's loud enough. As you lose more balls, it'll get louder. Are you lowered?
