Stealth subwoofer install

I finally was able to get my amp up and working with help from the local stereo shop guy. He was scratchin his head for a bit on it also. Turns out that tapping into the stock bose sub harness for your remote turn on isnt the best idea. It only puts out 6v of power which is plenty for that girly amp that pushes ur stock 4 inch subs. But for a real amp 12 solid volts are needed. I was able to install amp and (2) 10 inch subs in the spare tire well and keep all my cargo space with a flush stock floor. I did loose the spare tire but I'll live. Only issue is the handle of the cargo area slams up and down but thats an easy enough fix!! Here are a few pics for u all!

bass comes through just fine. just like it does with the stock woofers that are enclosed in a time capsule device. Think of it like a trunk of a car.. I built the box myself with 3/8 particle board in about 45 min after measuring space and needed air space for subs.. sealed of course..its half assed but its outta sight so thats why no carpet or covering to it. Had the amp hooked up at Stero King in Aloha.. Spendy but dude did good work after he figured out the issue!

nice! like how its not noticeable unless you hear it

btw tchuck and op, your both in portland.. mini meet?

Your absolutely right about the remote turn on lead. I hooked up my Rockford Fosgate power series amp using the factory remote turn on and it couldn't even turn on the amp. I had to make my own turn on lead to turn on my amp. Looks good.

i like that stealth setup a lot, not sacrificing anything really besides the spare, not much need for that jack anymore

There is only a max speaker depth clearance of around 5 inches so keep that in mind and the the total airspace is just over 1 cubic ft. Make sure u know how much airspace your sub(s) require before throwing a box together. The equations are simple. Just google speaker box air space. It will sound like shit if you dont have enough air to move the woofer. I would personally go with a single 12 but I had 2 10's collecting dust. Plan on changing it later this year. I would also swap where I have the amp and put the subs up toward the back seat so u get less vibration from the cargo handle. And the jack will stay put because its better storage there then on a shelf in my garage:biggrin: This isnt the one installed in my FX but this is the type of line output converter u want to buy that u can avoid the remote turn on issue I had..

I've been waiting for 8 months for this bad boy to come out:

Stereo Integrity's BM mkIII: 12"!, 3.5" mounting depth!!, .5ft^3 sealed!!, 450 wtts rms.

Just one is all you need. Im thinking this will fit inside the spare tire, and still look just like this, 100% stealth with a VERY good subwoofer.

How do u seal the tire?? You gonna build a box that fits in the tire?? Looks like a great sub.. I considered a sub in tire setup but there wasnt enough room for a sufficient amp with that tire in there.

hey would i be able to get the exact measurements please =]

Box Measurements

IMG_2996-2.jpg[/IMG]The measurements of the box is 12" deep 31" across on the longest side 17" across on the shortest side and 7" height. I made a new top for my box that houses only 1 10" sub now. After recalculations I found that I wasnt giving 2 subs enough airspace to perform properly. With 1 10 the sq went up quite a bit. Internal airspace for this box is roughly .8cuft

After a few days of having the sub installed I discovered that with when the sub was hitting its hardest it was grazing the cargo cover which messed up the sound of the bass. I built a new box with a height of 6 inches opposed to the 7 on my original box and it made all the difference in the world!!! Just a heads up for all who are building their own box:rolleyes:
