Some sad issues with my FX :(

I went to start my FX yesterday to drive it to Upstate NY and it wouldn't start at all. The battery was completely drained. I'm pissed because the battery is still brand new. This is like my 3rd battery from Infiniti. I tried to jump start it and it wouldn't even work. I had to stand there and charge the battery for a while.

Now the next problem and probably the biggest problem I have is that I have a slow oil leak. When I opened up the hood to jump start the battery yesterday I notice what looks to be like motor oil seeping out around the timing chain cover area where the factory uses some kind of rtv silicone to seal it. Ughhhhhh I'm so let down seeing this.

And my 3rd issue is the stiff brake pedal that happens over night. The vacuum system keeps losing pressure. The dealer replaced the check valve and that didn't even fix it.

Thank god I have a warranty. She's going back to the dealer Saturday morning.

Some other minor issues I've had is that my fog lights no longer come on. It's not the hid's because they still won't come on even with the stock foglight bulbs back in. I hope it's just a fuse issue. I haven't checked it out yet.

fogs you probably fried something or they got wet from snow and got fried.

Other issues, idk what to tell you. Sad to see your car has so many issues. Would it have anything to do with the body work you got done?

Good luck

Nah nothing to do with the body work. The engine wasn't touched when the car was repainted. The whole engine bay wasn't touched.

Sad to hear Aaron, I do know that my welcome lighting is what drained my battery on my 09. As soon as I disabled it I never had another problem.

Here is a pictures of what seems to be oil leaking from the timing cover area?

Notice the spot where I wiped a little off with my index finger. Thoughts o what this is guys? Pretty sure this wasn't oil spilt by accident or if it's even motor oil and maybe just grease?

Doesn't look like an oil leak, or at least not a recent or major one. Looks more like oil vapor, but that doesn't make sense either given the location. Could be oil seeping from the timing chain, but that's relatively unlikely. Maybe clean it up and see if it comes back. My 335 engine has oil vapor everywhere, but that's because the BOV vents to the open air and there's crankcase blowby. That's honestly what yours looks like, but obviously it's not the case.

The thing with oil is that when its hot, it spreads easily because its soo thin. It may look like a big leak in effect its just a drop of oil that spread out across that whole side.

You stated the dealer replaced the check valve....are you referring to the PCV valve? or another valve somewhere else (sorry I haven't had a chance to discover all the goodies on the 2nd gen engine).

I'm wondering if they forgot to plug something back in, left a clamp off and possibly venting oil vapor... Check the oil level

As for battery discharging, if i may ask, why did you have it changed the first time? Those Panasonic batteries are supposed to last 7 years at least... what battery did they give you? Aside from that point, its possible the alternator's rectifier is partially gone and you're not getting the full charge, so the battery is barely getting a charge if any....get them to check the charging system.

If the fogs are not coming on, either you got a fuse issue or the BCM is getting wet and that could be the culprit for your discharged battery possibly. The BCM controls the fogs...

Don't get too worried with my above suspicions, these are just places to check, you have to start somewhere...

Man, that looks like almost nothing. When I changed the Tahoe's oil the other day the whole underside has oil on it. I think about 4.5/6 quarts came out. Unless you have oil pooling underneath it's probably not worth fretting about. One thing that worries me is that things won't go back together the same as they left the factory once you take them apart again. If the leak doesn't get any worse then the worst thing you might end up doing is just putting in a tiny bit of oil between changes, and wiping the engine down every now and then.

Like Scythe said, oil spreads very easily. I usually end up with a drop on my front sway when changing the oil just because of it's location. I can wipe off the whole sway bar with that one drop and it covers the whole thing and makes it look like it's dripping wet with fresh paint.

Like you said, you have the warranty so if it gives you peace of mind then just let them take a look at it, especially the battery issue since that's a PITA if it goes out.

just saw the pictures, i agree with everyone that posted above. Ive noticed personally on BMW, Mini and Mercedes they all have oil vapor residue around the motor area and random places that might look like a leak but usually arent. Have you checked your plastic under panel, do you see drips of oil?

Welcome lighting? The mirror LEDs? No way!

Yes, way. The welcome lighting is supposed to disable itself if the car is not used for over a couple of weeks (factory setting), but mine did not do that and after a month my battery ran down. I discovered mine stayed active and would eventually drain the battery, while I was away on winter vacation.

The check valve Aaron refers to is the check valve on the brake booster. It suppose the fix the morning brake paddle stiffness problem Aaron was having per the dealer!

But if the car's locked, isn't the welcome lighting off anyways? Maybe I'm not thinking of the same welcome lighting...

How many miles you have on her Aaron? That doesn't look like anything unusual if you're getting up there in milage

You think you may have an oil leak, but is your oil level low when you check the dip stick? If not, like what others have said, it could be oil vapour residue.

Aaron, do you think it could be something to do with the salt out here on the East Coast? Did you get any kind of undercarriage treatment to deter corrosion?
