Service Engine Soon (SES) Light

Well, this is now the second time the light has come on (it is not flashing). If the light is solid, the manual says to check the gas cap...well, the cap is on perfectly tight.

Any ideas...? I have booked an appointment for Wednesday and the dealership says the car is driveable...but, still, I can't help but feel concerned especially with the weather up here gone to deepfreeze of late.

Thanks for any input!

I know with the 1st gen FX, you have to go pass 3 clicks on the gas cap... I don't know how it is with the 2nd gen.... I'm wondering if the colder air/weather have something to do with it

There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) out for the FX50s for the SES light being on:

///10487

Might want to look into that, otherwise anything is possible.

yup, start with the gas cap. too early for that thing to go bad though. why don't you get the code from Autozone and get back to us? that might be more helpful. the stealership is more likely to get some of your hard earned $$$. the car should be ok to drive imo.

Yumvha-

When u get back from the dealer, please update us on what the dealer says the issue was. Curious if it's the TSB or some other issue. The TSB is not even really specific on what causes it.

Hey guys...Yeah, first thing I did was to check the gas cap and re-close it (and yes on the 3 clicks; I even did 4 just to be sure).

I'm not sure if it is the cold weather (even though, it is beyond frigid here right now). But, it has happened in the summer for a couple of days as well.

The car's slated to go in on Wednesday for some other work (this is an odd one too: my guidance lines have vanished on my camera when I'm trying to back up) and they'll be examining the SES light issue as well.

I'll keep you guys posted.

You do know there is a setting on the navigation menu to turn the guidance lines for the camera on and off. I'd check that....

LOL...yes, very aware of that. The settings are set to ON. My wife depends on those guidance lines to park.

And yes, I also know if the wheel is in center position, the lines will disappear. They are gone even when I'm turning the wheel.

hahah Most people don't know so I was just saying:tongue (2):

Probably a software glitch....

Did the dealer check out why the light is on?

The FX is still in the shop...so, I guess they are doing as thorough of a job as possible.

It's fine. I had an EX yesterday and they put me in a G37x until they are finished (either Friday or Monday)...

cool... how's the G37x?

Good car. Quite fun and makes me miss it when I was in a coupe before getting the FX. At the end of the day, I would still be in a coupe if kids weren't in the horizon in a year or so.

Yes, I know...there are better alternates to hauling kids around than an FX. But, it was a compromise. :D

Anyhow, update: Given the recent dump of snow on the city, the timing of my car going into the shop worked out so that they have just started to work on it YESTERDAY. I suppose I would normally be more annoyed but since I'm in a G37x, I am not really complaining.

The dealership gave me an update on the SES issue. I don't recall exactly what he said word for word but it was something about a cold-start and that there is an update for the computer that is being put in down in the US already. So, it should not be a problem to get it.

The camera guidance line problem, he replaced the 4-way camera. Or something like that. I'll again need to look at the service print-out when I get it.

Anyhow, they are still working on it and may need it for another day or so. Aiming to get it back by either late today or tomorrow...

So, got the car back and the dealership confirmed it is this issue. It will be outstanding because well, the update is not available up here in Canada yet apparently.

As for the camera issue (where the guidance lines have vanished in the past), they replaced the module for it. So, here's hoping...

Hey everyone...it's been awhile. Anyhow, being up in Canada, the update arrived and so, I got my car's firmware updated.

Well, the SES light was off for an entire week and yesterday, I turned on the car...and voila...it was on again.

FAWK. Back to the dealership I go...Ugh...

good information, i just picked up an 09 fx50. to replace the fx35 i sold. im in canada as well. is there a way to check what updates have been done on it. can they be scanned by others outside of the dealership. when i picked it up used at my local dealer, i asked if all updates were done and they said yes. only had it a week. thanks for the info

Well, the SES light problem is back.

I wonder what is triggering it. And I think one commonality is that it seems to happen usually after I refill the gas and then wash the car on a cold day. Not sure what is triggering it. :mad.:

And oh, another weird issue...for some reason, a couple times now, I come back to my car and all my windows are down. Am I doing something to cause that...?
