I'm debating on putting my FX up for sale. It's a 2005 FX35 AWD that I am thinking of posting up for 18K. If I can get around 18K for it I can add a little more money on top of that and purchase a 2008 G37. Ive been wanting to get a car for a while. If I keep the FX It needs to last me another 6-7 years until I finish college. (Graduate school included in this time frame). I just was thinking now is the deciding time before the car's value depreciates even more to less then 12 or 13K. What do you guys think?

$8-10k is what I'm guessing your value is. Most cars stay in that range longer. Its the $15-17 range and then $8-10k for many used luxury cars.

I think your price point is a little high I agree. If you can get anywhere near that price I say do it! If there are no problems with your FX I am sure many would tell you that it could last the 6-7 years that you want with proper maintenance depending on how much you drive? Keep us posted though

To be honest I biased my price off of the KBB value. The car is in very good shape and the miles are around 56k. I will do a little more price comparison online and get a more accurate price.

I have an 07 with about 62k and I don't think I could get 15 for mine. I would like to believe it is worth more than it is but...the years go by quick!!! These are "old" cars even though they don't look dated and run flawlessly!

Yea I would search used FXs in your area at dealerships and see what they are going for. I am interested in what the consensus is!

With the amount of years for school and mileage on the FX I think I would stay with the FX...Someone here posting 200K on the FX with not much issue. Could still be a good match for the amount of service needed.

I wish I had my FX while in college. Chicks - piles of chicks will flock.

Have you checked on depreciation of the G to project what that loss would be?

cargurus and autotrader show the value of your fx from $17-19k, so $18k is a realistic value vs whats on the market. it is just a matter of how much listing is out there and how fast or slow they are selling. glws.

Yeah I listed it on craigslist just temporarily while I figure out if I truly want to trade in for a G coupe but porkandbeans brought up a good point. The depreciation value of the G seems to be quicker then the FX. I think that's prob because it's more distinctive from year to year maybe? But I'm still deciding. I think by this weekend I will have a final idea of what I want to do. If I don't end up selling it I'm just going to end up modding the crap out of it.

Craigslist is the worse place to post it. You will get so many low ball offers but anywho. i sold my supercharged fx a month ago for about 12k with 89k miles. i had listed at 14k. I could have held out longer but i wanted out of the car. What makes your distinctive vs the others? My car had every option for 05 and it was modded like a mother!

Here is another kicker for you..... The amount you might get for a trade in is not far off from what you will sell the car for but that depends a lot on the dealer. These cars do not stay on the lot for long.

Mine is fully loaded but minimal mods...just HID's on the fogs and a black grille with the logo still silver. That's all haha..and yeah my dad told me to ask the dealership to see if they will do a trade in. I gotta look into that. Craigslist was just cause it was free and until the weekend. I'm not counting on that to work at all. I will post up the price that the dealership offers for me this weekend when I go and ask..I'm interested to see what they value it at in NY.

How many miles are on the 05 FX 35?? I agree with many posters above 18-19K doesn't seem realistic, unless the mileage are really low. Most dealers use the black book when appraising a car.

So you're 18 ish? Just keep the FX, it will last until graduation. It's more practical than the G anyways for college, can haul stuff and move around. You really don't want to upgrade your car in school, it will get dinged, dented, curbed, scratched, etc. Just wait until you get out, get a real job, then buy something much nicer. No sense in moving in little increments. You're at the point where depreciation really isn't going to get any worse anyways. It's fallen about as far as it will go, so waiting isn't going to hurt you.

Ive seen 2008 w/ mid 50k miles trade in for around 18-20k... trade in value sucks, but helps with offsetting the taxes

I would keep the FX if i were you, and just get something nicer down the line. I regret trading mine in, but at the same time having a smaller vehicle now is a big plus b/c of space issues.

I think that 18K is too high if your mileage is around 120k or so. I tried to sell my previous FX (2004) with 156k just last summer and my offers ranged from $5k to $9k :(.

No I'm a senior, 21 I am about to go into Med School next year so that's why I said I have 4-5 more years..And my car has 57k on it currently. The real reason when it comes down to it is I just have always loved the G coupe and just thought it would be a good "single" car type thing. I'm no where close to a family or any serous hauling and such. But you guys are basically right as much as I don't want to admit it haha. This weekend I'm gonna ask the dealerships. If I can grab 16-17K for it I will probably go through with it but if not then I am not going to bother. I was planning on putting a few grand into my FX this summer with minor mods if I don't get rid of it. I appreciate all the responses guys!

the mileage was 56k. craigslist is great since it is free, but expect the lowballers. the fx has a decent resale value. i sold my 03 premium with a little over 60k miles last year over $14k. :)

oops we were replying at the same time regarding mileage. p.s. if you will get a g coupe i suggest you negotiate it separately first and not with trade in upfront, though some may find convenient to have it the other way around. dont forget to get a quote from carmax if you do decide to sell the fx.
