Rough idle at start up in cold

Nope, no codes.. Although, my car had, which I think was a misfire on Cylinder 1 at a red light like a month ago. It blinked then disappeared in half a minute.

I did change from Chevron/Shell to Costco

Stick to Chevron/Shell man. Costco gas might be cheap but I really doubt they use premium fuel for 93 octane.

Alright, I'll try to see if that works. Gonna empty my tank, put a fresh tank of Shell V+ Nitro, then change my oil.

Can't wait to install my both my valve covers

Check ur coils as well their fairly cheap to replace also if ur doing the covers might as well to do the spark plugs those could be the problemos as well

Pretty much only in the cold. I think it's most prevalent on '06-'07s. There's a long thread about it where sometimes it won't start in the cold as well. I've had good luck where I turn the ignition to on for a bit and then try to start it. Usually have to crank twice or more if I try to start immediately. Something about priming the fuel pump. Might be fairy dust, but it seems to work.

But yeah, it's been doing it just about every day once the cold weather came in the past couple weeks. If the cars warm I don't think it does it though.

I remember recently reading that certain models actually need a higher cold cranking amps (CCA) or something rated battery, and mine was one, so that could be the issue as well. Last night when I started it my radar detector made a weird beeping noise like it wasn't getting full voltage.

Yes, i have the same issue when i leave the car for about 4-5 days without starting it outside in the cold. Also my car is 06 like yours. All my spark plugs are new + new optima yellow top battery.

So far, I've changed my oil from PUP 5w30 to Castrol Syntec GTX 10w30. Changed my PCV valve and removed all Costco fuel and put in a fresh tank of Shell w/ V Nitro..

Everything has been good. Only difference is that it's 5 degress warmer, but no sun this time and I started it right away instead of waiting for my 9500ix to load the battery voltage

Did you get your valve covers at any particular place or at a good price? I'm starting to smell burning oil and most likely that might be the issue.

Got a new passenger one w/ gasket from a member on here, my new drive side and gasket offer is pending on eBay.

Smell of burning oil? Could just be the gasket. To see whether you actually need the valve, check your spark plugs for oil on them

Costco is Shell gas, but I would say you have a little water in your tank and when it's getting cold it's crystallizing. Keep in mind, even if the gas you purchase doesn't have water in it, over time with the change in temps all tanks will get a certain amount of condensation. Even more so now that all our gas has corn juice in It, which attracts water! Get some Lucas fuel additive and run a few of those through it! Also, it wouldn't hurt to clean the map sensor, but be careful as they are very delicate. Other than that, I would look at the coil pack on the 1 cylinder. Good luck!

It's better now, but I still need to replace my coil pack on Cylinder 1.

I used a fresh tank of Shell V+ Nitro

This last tank I put in yesterday is from Costco.. And all is still good. This rough start up did happen when the tank was lightly under the line at the E

That sort of stuff is regulated you know...there are standards that have to be met and Costco is now Top Tier gasoline. It really doesn't matter what brand the gas is, it all goes through the same pipelines and hits the same distribution facilities (so Shell/BP/Chevron gas and Costco gas will be in the same tank). They just blend in their proprietary mix of detergents and/or ethanol at the point they fill the truck which goes to the gas station. Shell/Chevron/BP stations are typically independently owned (it's why so many gas stations are run down) so it doesn't matter how good the gas is if the tank they're putting it in is old and has water in it. Most people are better off going to bigger corporately owned gas stations that also happen to have high volume.

People that swear their cars run better on one gas brand over another are deluding themselves. If there ever was a difference, it would likely be from contamination at one gas station and have nothing to do with the brand.

Good to know, I wasn't aware they were Top Tier gasoline. I'll probably reconsider using Costco gasoline one day. I was always told back when I lived in California that Costco gasoline was technically watered down gas. I didn't do my research of course and got brainwashed by my uncle like a fool.

Thanks for the info though !

exactly. Thank you for posting.

California gas in general is "watered down". Premium is only 91 octane when it's typically 93 in other states. That may be what people mean when they say "watered down". It's an emissions thing, something to do with oxygenating the gas to reduce certain pollutants. Sad thing is many states are going to CA type gas like NY I believe.
