ROTORPROS REVIEW Infiniti FX45

Hi,

I'd like to give my review on ROTOR PROS complete braking set.

After much reading and discussion on multiple forums, I decided to go ahead with ROTOR PROS Slotted/Drilled and the best brake pads they had available (ceramic?). For the sake of it, they asked if I wanted the inner part of the rotors to be red, and I said sure.

Keep in mind, this review is after a few months of driving with the rotors and pads mounted.

Purchasing: Rich (owner) took my order via telephone. I had it shipped to Canada where I live. I ordered 4 slotted/drilled rotors and 4 brake pads (the complete set) Shipping took few weeks if I recall but I guess it had to go thru customs since they are based in the States. Overall basic/average experience. Not the best.

Items when they arrived: The items came in half broken oil stained boxes that look liked Pizza boxes. The tape job looked like they recycled a pizza hut box. Just a terrible job. But its whats inside that matters right? I open up to see the rotors and the horrendous "red rotors" paint job. Absolute shit. paint dripping everywhere and it smudged all over my hands and stained the box it was in. It definitely looked like a can of spray paint with specs everywhere. The pads came in a box taped up with hack job. The finish was overall garbage.

Installation: I took my vehicle to my mechanic for the install and he was only able to get the FRONT ROTORS AND PADS installed. The rear did not fit. The pads also did not fit the rear. I was like wth...so I emailed Rich and told him. He insisted I try another shop. I went to Infiniti dealership and then Honda dealership, neither of which could fit the rear rotors and pads on the car. I told Rich what happened and he told me to take pics of the rotors with the numbers engraved on the side which i sent to him and he insisted those are the only and correct ones for my FX45. I told him how is that possible that 3 certified autoshops can not fit the brakes into my car and your telling me its the right ones. I wasn't gonna ship these back to him as it'll cost me a fortune due to weight and he wasn't willing to. So my last stop at the shop - I just got them to install OEM rotors and pads on the rear - which worked perfect.

Now I only have the rotor pros upfront.

Braking: The braking was absolutely terrible from day 1. I went to Infiniti to get my front brakes checked to see if my mechanic did a decent job and they said it looked perfect nothing wrong. The braking was so harsh and whenever the vehicle came to a stop it was extremely harsh and you could physically hear the brakes catching at stop. I dealt with this for months. And what do you know, less than 6 months later the front rotors have been warped to the shitters. Any braking going above a certain mph gives slight vibrations. The actual braking noise just always clunked at a full stop from the pads making contact with the rotors.

I just took my car to the autoshop to get oem front rotors and pads on the vehicle. VOILA. all issues resolved.

Now i am left with ZERO ROTOR PRO products on my car. The only thing Rich did for me was send me some cheap-skate REAR brake pads after I spent hundreds of dollars on his products that are not even on my car.

I use my vehicle for daily commute to work. 8 miles a day. I don't race/track/ or do aggressive braking. For these rotor pros not to even hold up for 6 months is garbage.

Basically, ROTOR PROS sent me rears rotors and pads that did not fit - and sent me front set that warped in 5 months.

I got NO REFUND - NO REPLACEMENT - NO HELP/OFFER to resolve the situation - What a joke of a company. Lesson learned.

Pics of the paint job? I took a look at their website and it looks amateur. But their products look like the typical cheap rotors you find on eBay. Did you pay via CC? If so, I would have filed a chargeback the instant I discovered the rears didn't fit and they refused to take them back.

Yeah unfortunately this was some time ago now. I should of known but instead I spent days on end doing emails back and forth waiting for a reply and then moving from one autoshop to the next. I wanted to make it work - believe me. Oh well... :(

I have used these drilled/slotted rotors for years on my FX with out any problems. Ran them on my Civic also.
Too bad he couldn't help you out..

I bought them for my car a couple of years ago, at first they seemed fine but over time they warped. I called Rich and had them replaced under his warranty with boot from me to his upgraded premium high carbon rotors. I have been running them for about a year now and these too are now warped. Granted I am hard on my brakes but rotors should last longer than what these have. In my opinion the ceramic pads he sells tend to heat them more than the others, IDK, maybe im wrong but since the first time they warped I have always used akebonos which I feel are excellent pads. In the end, I will NOT buy them again, even though they are still under warranty, my time is also valuable and yes the warranty is fine, but who wants to change their rotors every year. I think this time I will spend more money and go with R1 as they sell a MUCH better product!

best rotor you can get is a plain faced high-carbon, cyro-treated rotor. I always order from tirerack.com as their customer service is top-notch.

pads, I go with either OEM if you want best initial bite, or akebono or hawk HPS if you are okay with a little need for the pads to warm up to be effective.

Of course you can always get cross drilled/slotted for looks, but you just reduce your surface area and eat up your pads faster. not to mention potential cracking if you get cheap cross-drilled rotors.

There are so many big-brake kits for the fx, that is what i'd recommend though.

So here's the million dollar question, what is the cheapest route for a BBK? I know there are a lot of other cars that run big disc and calipers that can be configured/modified to work on our cars. Which is the cheapest route? I know to buy a Brembo kit is BIG money as the fronts alone are 4-5K!

Renhalt, I'm not sure how much you paid for the Roto Pros or what you are willing to pay but I can tell you I've had great success with my DBA rotors. They are the best rotors I've ever owned. A full year in and they feel brand new. No warping, the edge paint is still black and they stop great. Something to think about for next time.

Cheapest BBK is going to be the FX50 setup. Direct bolt on in front so it's very cheap, ~$350 for front calipers and then rotors/lines/pads are up to you. Can reuse OEM lines I believe - I'm using SS lines designed for my 1st gen on the Akebono's so I'm assuming OEM lines would work. Rears requires a little more work/money in that you need calipers/rotors/pads/ball joint adapters/knuckles. But I still think the full setup F/R is going to be under $2K. Next cheapest full BBK option may be Kido and they offer lots of custom options.

I agree, FX50 setup and you can powder coat/paint them to your liking and get some nice rotors.

KIDO is probably the next cheapest then goes up to Stillen/AP Racing, Brembo prices.

Thanks for the replies, I salready have stainless lines so I guess all I would need is the from fx50 calipers and then rotors and pads? Also I'm guessing I could always do front then later do the rears? Also, what is the difference in the diameter of the 50 rotors vs. the stock first gen 35 rotors? Any suggestions if I did the front now and the rear later in regards to which front/rear rotors to buy that match?

You can do front only and rears later. I'm only running the fronts right now. I have a set of TC6 ball joint adapters for the rear, but never got around to sourcing the rest of the parts since it's more involved. The FX50 rotors are like 14" and the OEM are 12.8" or so. It's a huge different, especially when you put them side by side. I just bought R1's separately, FX50 for front and OEM for rear. Rotors are cheap so if I ever get around to swapping rears, just need to get R1 rotors and it all matches.

Btw, I've been looking or the fx50 front calipers and noticed that when doing a search it often pulls g37 calipers as well and say they fit the 50. Are they the same?
