So my stock rotors are cooked. Been that way for a while now, but now they shake more than I'm comfortable with on hard braking. It's been tolerable at normal driving, but since I track, & do the canyon runs every week, it's time to pull them. I really could use a brake upgrade all the more, but for now, It's gonna be the rotors & pads.
Anyone that can help me choose something would be appreciated.
I have pads already. Porterfield R4S. They call it a high perf. Street pad
I also have the option for drilled, slotted, etc, but I dont want any real issues, so maybe solids would be an option.

Please chime in,, thx! :smile (2):

Slotted would be good I think. That's what I'm leaning towards next for something a little better than OEM blanks and can handle more aggressive driving.

Check this out:
What is the difference between Drilled and Slotted or Drilled Only or Slotted Only Rotors?

  • Drilled and Slotted provides a lighter rotational mass and It also provides a nice esthetic enhancement over the factory looking rotors. Drilled and Slotted Rotors also provides better heat dissipation which may help the chance of rotor warpage caused by overheating. The Slots on the rotors resurface the brake pads. By doing so you’ll have fresh pad to rotor contact which provides better braking and prevents the glazing of the rotor.
[*]Drilled Only: This is exactly the same for the Drilled and Slotted rotors. The main and only difference is that there no slots. Some people feel that the slots throw off the look of the rotor and only want the drilled looked.
  • Slotted Only: Same rule as the Drilled Only rotors. There are people who don’t like the drilled holes and just want to keep the slots only. When it comes to optimal performance, the Slotted Only rotor is also recommended for those who are heavy on the brakes or for those who are spirited drivers. These are the optimal choice due to the fact your brakes work off of friction.

Wont mind Brands & Links too. thx

& at the firehouse in canyons today, fireman asked if my car was Porsche this morning. That was first for me. :)

This is where I got that info from: http://www.r1concepts.com/t-faq.aspx

Personally, I'm leaning towards the Project Mu pads just because they are cool, and I guess they make FX specific according to Zebra. Still unsure on rotor brand myself. R1 seems good, and they know their stuff. I thought the StopTech rotors looked nice as well.

Yes, we have Project Mu pads for the 1st and 2nd Generation FX's. We also carry StopTech Stainless Steel lines, Brake pads and rotors. PM me folks for a quote, if you are interested.

Project MU pads are pretty expensive. I think they cost 3 times more than StopTech's. I will get back to you tomorrow on a quote.

It's a street pad, right?
What I'm looking for are the rotors & lines, but I'd like to know a little about the pads too.
The ports I have, (R4-S) compound giving a friction level up to .41.
If you have specs on MU's, would like to hear.

I am currently running R1Concepts Premier slotted/drilled rotors, and Stoptech pads. I will say they dust easily but braking performance is ok.

Hmm, if the PMu are much more than $100 it would be hard to justify. They are definitely cool and rare but I don't know if the performance will be much better.

Dave, this shows .32-.45 for the coefficient of friction. I guess it varies by the application, but I couldn't find a specific value when looking at the ones I would use.

No stoptech for my model on there. R1 only. Eline & Premier. Ya think Premier worth the extra expense?

That's R1's site so they only sell those. I found the StopTech on tirerack, but probably a lot of vendors have them.

I ran the StopTech sports drilled and slotted with SS brake lines and Akebono ProAct ceramic pads. Great combo in my opinion. No complaints.

I would go with akebono pro act pads with stoptech slotted or blank rotors. If you drive around on the streets, drilled rotors won't benefit you. If you track your ride alot then the drilled will be good.

I already have some good pads, but was looking for the rotors. Slotted, drilled, blanks is the question. So many opinions on the web, it's crazy

Blanks/slotted for normal everyday driving.
Drilled and slotted for track use.

I never used stoptech pads. I always used akebono pads. They work very good.

Since you track your car and go to the canyons, slotted or blanks. Drilled doesn't really provide any benefit other than looks and since you have the slightly smaller early FX brakes, I'd be worried about the reduction in mass from a rotor that's already slightly smaller.

That was my concern. They do look nice when new. I get on my brakes pretty hard even in 'normal use' , never riding them, but shirt usage of heavy use. With that in mind, what to get?
