Reverse Lights Question

I was just browsing the lighting section but didnt see anyone mention anything about it.

I have tinted tails and reverse lights and sometimes I really have difficulty looking at the camera image on rainy days. Sometimes it seems like I dont have any kind of illumination for me to back up to.

Question:

If I wanted to mount a old fog light or some sort of light under my car what can i tap into to activate the light when I only go in reverse? Would i just tap into the reverse lights?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

this does not really answer your question, but what about replacing the reverse bulb (921/906) with a much brighter one to maybe illuminate behind you?

Tapping into the reverse light wiring would make the most sense. I am sure its doable but just need to find the best point to tap into.

yea i thought of that but switching to brighter LED lights, I kinda feel it will not work when it rains cause the lights emit differently. (like how 6000k to 8000k HID there is more visibility with the 6000). I have more trouble seeing the ground. And the fact when it rains the back window gets like 10 times darker and I cant see anything.

Yea I thought of that too, which I will probably have to end up doing using a relay, but I was hoping to possibly bypass that somehow and tap into some wire closer to the undercarriage of the car or something. Im not sure. I just dont want to run a lead wire from the hatch through the rear of the car.

Is there anything under the hood that I can.

Is there a group of wires I can tap into for tow lights perhaps? Possible wire diagram. I can prolly use the power from that to power and trip the lights

Definately going to do a DIY write up with pics. Got the relays and everything. I have some old hid bulbs laying around for a test fit. Still deciding what other size to get for a better fit.

Additionally, you can adjust the brightness of the feed from the back up cam. When in reverse (and stopped hopefully) press the SETTING button to access the brightness and contrast controls.

Thanks Aiya. I tried that and it helped some what but I just feel I need more light back there. Maybe hid wouldnt be bad idea. I do have one HID ballast just sitting around.

Also doesn't answer your question but I don't have a camera, so I need to rely on the mirrors.

I have to back out of a curved driveway and when it's dark out I usually step on the brake to light it up. I can see using my side mirrors and the brake light glow.

When you run the hot wire don't forget to add a fuse or fusible link. You don't want a short especially since the wire will be exposed to the outside and undercarriage.

I just installed tinted tail lights also and have the same issue with not enogh light from back up lamps I thuoght I saw somewhere that had led ights in the lower bumper reflectors anyone know where to get those?

I saw a bumper reflector that was half reflector and half backup led's somewhere but I can't find them now. I think someone posted them as being available in Japan.

yeah, those are from japan I think... I remember raymond posting about them recently in response to one of my tailight things... probably in my fx thread, I'll look for it

ok, I found it in the last page of my fx thread but nothing more than mention of them being from japan, maybe PM him for more info?

I want to add reverse like this

I sourced a light, but what kind of "scoop" would work under there? I was thinking of making something....
