I'm curious to see who in the nj/ny area would be able to remove painted on pinstripe and how much would it cost. I bought the car used from the dealer like that and I hate it lol

I can do it. cost is going to be based on amount of labor it takes & some are worse than others. most times it can be done with a rubber eraser wheel then polish but some require some amount of wetsanding too. cost can be anywhere from $100 to $200 and most fall somewhere in the middle of this range. is the stripe faded and half washed away in spots? or is it still pretty intact & solid?

Solid actually, it's a double stripe, thick on top thin on bottom, runs from fender to tailgate and the shops name by the fx symbol it seems like its been kept in really good condition (paint wise) n not faded

There is a "secret" old-school method to get rid of those pinstripes......

This may sound a little far fetched, but get a can of spray-on oven cleaner. Just spray to cover the stripes, wait a minute, and wipe off.

It will not harm the clearcoat underneath!!!!!

I never tried that but sometimes other chemicals can do similar so I suppose that very well could work, you could also try kerosene, laquer thinner, acetone or mineral spirits, none of which will damage the paint itself, results depend on the enamel that was used for the stripe and the integrity of the painted stripe itself, but the problem I find most times is even when the stripe is removed it can still show a shadow of the stripe so it usually needs to be at least polished afterwards anyway.

ill be honest, i love my baby too much to risk it, rather let a pro do it, and jugding by turbo's posts, pics and dedication, i trust the mans work.. so i'm hoping maybe soon he can give it a shot.. can u PM me ur shop info and when is best for u?

On a good sunny day, maybe Fort Lee NJ. Been bumming around NYC and Brooklyn with my gf mostly. Good to see another NJ'er on this forum.

i was born and raised hoboken nj n proud of it :smile (2): n do travel to and from jersey and virginia at least 8-10 a year to visit the pops

Not to take away business from Turbocad, but try 3M eraser wheel. I've used it and its amazing. I used it to take off the adhesive mounting tape on our moldings. No chemicals, you can do a huge job in minutes. I spent two hours one day removing six inches of adhesive with my hands and the entire car took 15 minutes with the eraser wheel. It costs about $40 and all you use is a cordless screwdriver.

it looks good but would it work with painted on pinstripe?? i highly doubt it, but even then i may still leave a blemish or stain, rather do it the right way

actually i just looked into it

"Solid wheel designed for removal of vinyl striping tapes, decals, graphics and double sided molding tapes. Use on tools with 4,000 RPM . MOS: optimum speed is 2,000 RPM plus or minus 200."

won't work with "painted on" pinstripe

the eraser does work even on painted stripes but it is not always easy. you can sometimes eat up a whole wheel on just one car and this is part of the expenses I have in doing this job.

its all good.. i'm just really thinking what old geezer would actually pay about a G to have pinstripe put on this car.. it actually looks worst with pinstripe on than the actual blemishes i bought the car with on the driver door n rear bumper.. so pinstripe first to go then fix cracked paint on driver door and rear bumper lol.. n for those of you curious, the car is diamond graphite and pinstripe is black and a thin dark orange under it
