Rear Rattle

I was having some bad rattling noises while I was driving and especially going over bumps from the rear. So I decided to take a peak and found where the noise was coming from.

Here is a cheap fix.

1. Remove the rear upper panel.

2. Look for this thing.

3. I just stuffed in some paper towels and the rattle is now gone.

I am sure there is a better way of fixing it, but this will do for now.

Guess I have another rattle, this one sounds more on the left around the suspension area. Right rattle is gone, left rattle is still there.... I took out every panel in the rear and had my son ride in the trunk while I went over speed bumps. He noticed the noise coming from the rear drivers side wheel well. I am going to take off the rear drivers side wheel tomorrow and make sure everything is tight.

I think I may have heard of the struts causing this which the dealer (since your car is probably under warranty) can replace for you.

Found and fixed another rattle.

My sons hand hitting the problem:

....and the fix, just used an old polishing pad and some purple duct tape:

But I still have a rattle and will be taking it to the dealer monday. As you said Ilya, I believe it is the shocks.

That's the EVAP canister. I hate EVAP. If you EVER get an EVAP check engine light, good luck. Most of the time, that system is HARD to diagnose/fix. That system was the death of me in the Maxima world.

My M is currently at the dealer since this morning for the possible shock rattle. Took like a 5 second test drive and the shop foreman said, "we can head back." He also told me that he has never replaced a shock on an M before...and that I shouldn't listen to online forums because people like to make stuff up...haha.. He also told me that I shouldn't take body panels out of the rear because I will start voiding warranties..... I just said "oh, really" and took the loaner g37 and left. Will update this thread when I get more info.

lol @ voiding warranties for removing a cover.

And lol @ online forums because people make stuff up. That's why we HAVE these forums, to help one another because usually the dealer wont (unless you have warranty).

Which G37 did they give you for a loaner? I've never had to get a loaner car from the dealer... just wondering how they usually comp M owners?

Not really sure on the package, but it basically has nothing. No nav, no nothing 2009 G37 Sedan.

That's about right. My dealer either gives me a 2011 G25 or a 2009 or 2010 G37. They are all base. No sun roof, no nav, etc. etc.

The G37 is SOOOOOOO fast compared to the M and definitely the G25 which can't get out of it's own way.
