I did a search on the forum and found nothing that pertains to my problem.

So i have this loud/annoying noise coming from the trunk. happens pretty much all the time especially at slow speeds and when making left and right turns. drives me CRAZY!!! lol

My rear seats make a little noise from rubbing together but its not that, and that don't bother me really. I am almost certain (99%) positive that i pin pointed the noise to be coming from the 2 hinges on top of the trunk. I can replicate the noise when the truck is open and there is a creaking sound coming from the drivers side hinge.

Are we able to adjust the 2 rubber grommets on each side of the trunk? Maybe there is too much play in the trunk hatch when closed and its causing the hindge to make noise. My other option was to spray some kind of grease into the hinge in which i don't want really want to do.

had the dealer do some work to the FX the other day in which they fixed a few things in the engine. I mentioned to them about the truck noise i was having but they are brain dead when it comes to stuff like that and told me the couldn't replicate the noise or hear anything.

Any suggestions?

This is the first I've heard of this problem. It seems like the noise is loud enough while driving for you to hear, so I would imagine that it would drive any one crazy. On top of my head, I would lubricate and tighten-down those hinges.
For me, I lubricate hinges and joints whenever I see that they are dry. I usually do visual check after an oil change. You can't go wrong with adding too much of the correct lube... seriously, especially on metal on metal joints.

It does not hurt to lubricate the mechanism’s arms…have you checked to see if your grommets are stripped or notice any irregularity, how about the support socks may be weak...weird indeed!

Thanks for the input guys!

The grommets look good. They are not dried out or stripped. and the support shocks look good too (all greased up)

I'll try spraying the hinges with some silicone lube spray and report back to see if that works.

How did this work out for you? I think I have the same sound. I thought it might be something wiggling around in my cargo organizer, but it is not.

So i came to the conclusion that most of the noise was from the rear leather seats rubbing against each other. However, i do still get some faint noise from the trunk lid in which i do think it is the hinges. I really don't hear it anymore though, i think its because it's not cold and dry out all the time.

Have you tried adjusting the rubber stops/bumpers on the inside of the trunk lid? Here is a link that might be helpful (this pdf is for a 2010 FX35/50). See page DLK-253 for the exploded view of the trunk lid, it might show something...

Hey guys,

the problem is back and WORSE then ever since i been putting more miles on the truck.

non stop clunking coming from the trunk area especially on bumpy roads or if i make a right or left.

i am constantly trying to pin point where the sound is coming from but i can't figure it out... It's 100 percent something on the trunk door and to me it seems to sound like something around the window area.

I need to find where this coming from cause it sounds like such a clunker! even thinking of sticking this girl who i'm friends with in the truck  she's super tiny and can help maybe pin point the problem lol

Open the hatch. Take a rag and lay it on the sill but don't block the latch. Close the hatch and drive around. I found my 1st gen had a little play between the locking mechanism and the latch. Once I dropped the fx and reduced the profile of the tires, many things started to rattle and squeak more often and louder.

Thanks! yeah, i will try that ... also was thinking there might be some play on the two top hinges so maybe ill see if i wedge something in there too. eliminate some possibilities.

There could be but it's most likely the bottom and if not, you might need to go behind the panel. If you ever need to get behind a door panel, you'll notice the various things infiniti did to stop noise. Velour tacked here, foam there, etc. Stuff is glued, taped and plastic clips are everywhere. I went through my interior over a period of time and I can now drive down an average road without music on and hear nothing! I love that. I cannot stand interior noises. The FSM is full of this sort of thing. The hatch was my first and most noticeable noise and started when the FX was bone stock.

So i'm pretty sure i pin pointed the noise! i opened up the truck the other day and as it was going up i heard the same clunking noise coming from one of the shocks.

I haven't done anything yet with it cause i been so busy, but was going to try lubing it up first see if that helps. Next step after that would be to replace the shock.

What do you guys think?

The Bose bass speaker was loose and rattled in my ‘13 when I bought it, I tightened it, it stopped.

I rubbed a little coconut oil between the rear seats, just enough to quiet the sticking sound, don’t go crazy, leather will absorb it without any harm I can detect.

I feel your pain. I had noise coming from the cargo area and it drove me nuts .I knew it was coming from the hatch door but for the life of me I could not pin point where it is.

I finally bought felt tape from Amazon for $10 and stuck it all around the entire lift gate .see the pictures .

It's been a few weeks and the car is silent as a mouse :) try it and see if it works for you.
Also wild you are on the back of the panel check all bolts on the latch an any other to be tight.

That's one way to do it, probably the best way too if the whole hatch door panel is oddly rubbing against the hatch's trim. If just the hatch itself seems to be the issue at the locking mechanism as it was for me, then the felt-like tabs one would use for the bottom of furniture legs so a chair doesn't tear one's wood floors up does the trick inconspicuously placed on the hatch itself close to the locking mechanism. They put just enough pressure in between the panels.

Just seeing this now, thanks for the reply Abdul... The clunking has been out of control lately so i'm going to try this first.

Did you put the felt tabs on the (2) rubber stoppers?
