Radar Detector Interference

(Title should say Radar, sorry for the misspellig) I have an 09 G37 and my wife has a 10 FX35. My Passport radar detector has an annoying habit of going off when it senses interference from the navigation system. Anyone know if this same thing happens with the FX35? I don't mind the occassional mis-alert but I know it'd drive my wife crazy. Any other recommendations on radar detectors and the best place to purchase the mount. Is it safe to assume I can tap into the powered rearview mirror with an invisi-cord? Thanks for the feedback!

Invisicord is a good idea
Blendmount.com
If you want to avoid mis alert and nav interference which i haven't heard of on FX, you can change the setting, turn off the x and k band.

invisicord works great, there are many mounts out there but i personnaly like the clean look of the blendmount. Be aware that by mounting it on the rearview mirror your gps will be slower and I do find that it doesn't pick up radar signal from as far away. But it still works great, it just a tradeoff you are going to have to put up with.

ya, i forgot to mention that with a blendmount, your radar detector sits kinda high on the windshield and might not be able to pick up the signals clearly, I used the good ol suction cups that came with escort passport and have had no problem.

So no one has had the issue of the Laser going off intermittently because of interference with the navigation system in the FX?

i had the laser warning going off when i was playing with the detector inside the car, if i put the radar around the dashboard on the driver side the laser would go off. I have no idea why. Maybe check you placement? try putting it somewhere else see if u have the same problem.

The radar detector is picking up the signal from your ICC/Brake Preview module. The GPS has no lasers associated with it.

There is no way to prevent this aside from either disabling the ICC module or the Laser pick up in the detector. I opted to disable the Laser in my V1.

Funny I never have this problem with my V1 and my ICC although I don't usually use it and just opt to use the regular CC.
Curious. Even with ICC off, I get Laser warnings on my V1 whenever I am facing a large window or another vehicle is in front of me. I know the Brake Preview constantly sends out a Laser signal as you're driving too.

Where do you have your V1 mounted? I stick mine up near the top just under the tint line.

That's where I have mine mounted in my G37 except that it's a Passport instead of the V1. I'm constantly getting laser warnings going off. I've heard you can put a thin line of electrical tape underneath the bottom of the detector towards the front and it solves the problem but also hampers laser warnings. I guess the honest truth is if you're going as fast as I usually drive 75-80, if I get hit with a laser I wouldn't have enough time to slow down either way.

I guess I'm just looking for what brands of radar detectors have this problem the least. I'm looking at another Passport or a V1.

old thread but, my passport 8500 picks up automatic doors at stores when driving by. it comes up as X band. what exactly does the bands mean? X,K,Ka?

You can turn the x band off(I've been riding with x band off for the last 6 years in WI and IL), it's old technology and pretty much no one is using anymore. I know there is a website that lists all radar guns that were spotted in your area(by state and county), forgot the name. Automatic doors are using mostly k band, as well as some old state trooper and sheriff vehicles that are equipped with K-band (outdated) radar guns. The most common are Ka band and Laser.

PS your best bet upgrade to Escort 9500ix with built in GPS which eliminates false alerts. It's not the best, but at least it will be quite:)

They're just different frequencies emitted by the radar. That's all.

I will say this though.. here in Texas, K and Ka are normally cops. Ka, being the most common one. X is normally a false signal, which is why I have it off on my 9500ix.
But before buying my 9500ix, I did a little research and they said that cops may emit X bands in very rural areas. (Ex: making a long road trip through deserted towns.)

Got DAMNIT, Zebra! lol

I adjusted the settings through my computer. So it's Highway with no X.
