What if my car has a locking column? Can I use StarDrive?
There is no easy bypass for a car that has a mechanical steering wheel lock, and it will need to be defeated if you want to have the keyless experience. Do so at your own risk!
The electronic style steering wheel lock can be modified to work with the system.
How do I remove the column lock?
Discuss your options with technicians that perform Steering Column Repair.

the biggest problem with any system like this is the manual ignition lock. on the fx with Ikey, when it senses the key it unlocks the ignition switch, but all this unlocking does is allows you to turn the cylinder, it doesn't actually turn the cylinder for you & the cylinder must be turned to unlock the steering. if your happy with getting in, pressing the button to start, then turning the cylinder yourself then these can be good, but if you really don't want to have to turn the cylinder at all, which to me defeats the whole purpose to begin with, then you will have to open up the column & remove the steering lock. this is def doable & truth is, no one will know that the steering lock is removed so security is not compromised too much, so this is probably the best way to do this for most people.
they want you to cut a key & leave it in the ign, now I'm assuming this is ONLy for the steering lock & not for the actual can buss security confirmation, but I'm not 100% sure of that. most if not all remote starts now a days can be programmed to read the can code for the key & then duplicate that particular code upon initiation of a start sequence, I assume this is no different, but these would be the 2 important questions I'd ask the manufacturer.
#1, is the cut key left in the cylinder solely for the steering lock function? is actual bypass handled through can communication independently from the key in the ignition?
#2, does this module handle all the load & switching of the whole ignition cycle throughout the whole cycle completely independent of the original ign switch or does it depend on the ign switch to actually drive the vehicle safely? in other words, will this module alone be reliable enough to supply all power to the vehicle throughout drive cycles?
find out these answers & then we can determine if this thing can be set up to be truly like a factory push button ignition or not
