Powder Coating Rims Feedback

So I have read the latest reviews from a few members about there experiences with powder coating there rims. It seemed as though they had a hard time cleaning and keeping them from being scratched. I assume they went with a shiny/clear coat finish. I was planning on having my stock 03 20" rims powder coated with a mat finish which will have no shine what so ever and was wondering if anyone has had this done and whether or not I should do it or not. My fx has the liquid copper paint job and if anyone has this done with the same rims and paint please post or send me a pic!!!!!

Thanks for all of your help...

I have the same FX Autumn copper and also thinking of powder coating my wheels. Still undecided if I should go for the matter or shiny finish. I hope other members have pictures to share as I would like to see how it looks with the copper paint.

you should do a gloss finish: matte looks like you used a can of spray paint. If you want to not do gloss, atleast do a semi-gloss satin black or something.

To be honest, powdercoating is overrated; if you have a guy that knows how to prep paint, itll hold up better than run-of-the-mill powdercoating. (I know from experience)

I agree with jbaker on that one. Powdercoating is an overkill. It's only good on small stuff. Professional painting is the way to go. Up to this day i regret powder coating my wheels. Don't get me wrong, it looks good but a pain in the A$$ to upkeep. Plus you have to be lucky not to get wheel shake after getting the wheels powder coated. Go with a professional paint job. You'll be happy.

Ok so after a few hours trying to figure it out I am going the entire different direction, I'm going to do black chrome.....

been there, researched that as an option. the legit process is overly expensive and elaborate. you're much better off getting them painted with a pearl effect or incandescent effect to be similar to "black chrome"

i will agree with the vibration, it's there on mine also but so less it doesn't bother me. as far as cleaning goes, i hose the wheels with soapy water at a car wash, rinse it and that's it. i don't bother with towel drying, i just drive the car and that shakes the water off. my wheels have given me no problems at all. sorry to hear about yours.

Hosing the wheels off with soapy water and driven around for few does work the best. Just seeing those little swirls annoy me. Ah what can you do. It's life lol...

I disagree. If you get them powder coated flat black it looks really good. There are a lot of cars here that do the same thing to get that aggressive look. Flat just turn’s heads more then gloss! Everyone has gloss stuff on there cars.
