I was at the drive through car wash today, like always, and was thinking about how long it would take me to accomplish the same thing by hand. That made me wonder how many of you guys hand wash your FXs, and further, how many of you ONLY do it by hand. Some of you might hate me for this but to be honest the only vehicle I've ever hand washed religiously was my Suzuki GSX-R and if I could have auto-washed it I would have. That said I tend to do whatever is more convenient at the time. Lately it's been the drive through car washes. Anyway, I think you all get the idea... On with the poll.

in the summer, or when i have time - hand washes.

but in winter, or in a rush - drive through. The automatic ones though where nothing except the soap and water touch your car. Plus nice to have the drive through wash off the underbody once in awhile.

i prefer doing it myself, that way i can put all the time and care my baby deserves.... but sometimes, i take the car to the automatic car wash and bring some quick detailer with me and i apply it afterwards. :glasses:

I prefer to do hand wash only but I have to admit that sometimes especially in the winter when I would make an ice slick in my driveway I do the drive through but after they do it I allways have to take it home and do the detailing --usally at least an hour or two.

I live in a town home community and I would get fined if I used my water to wash my car. So I have no choice but to go across the street to the self serve washes. I hate using the brushes they have but I have no other choice at this time.

i've been doing hand washes only but damn it takes me 3+ hrs to do a decent job, and i'm friggin exhausted afterwards. i don't trust those huge spinning brushes @ those automatic carwash places, must be alotta crud stuck in them after all the cars that've gone through b4 mines... anybody know of a touchless carwash in the LA area??

whats weird and what i dont understand is why are most of the car washes with those huge paint destroyer, swirl creating brushes labelled as 100% touchless when its far from it.

I wash my baby by hand, but when it's 32 degrees or lower car washh it is

Have you guys seen The Final Destination? Yeah.. that's the only reason why I hand wash. jk. There's no drive-thru washes around here. It's more fun washing with your hands anyways!

Wow. I expected to be among the minority but I didn't expect to be the only one. I have literally never hand washed the FX. I only picked the "both" option in the poll because I don't really have a preference and if a time came when hand washing it was convenient or if I was bored on a sunny day I would do it. I guess I've never been able to justify the time investment. :embarrassed: You guys have inspired me though, I'm going to give it a shot next week.
Anyone ever wash their car in the dark? That's when I really have the time...

I enjoy hand washing. Usually like to start early afternoon and go until around 5. The only time it's ever been not hand washed is if the dealer ever washed it, but I usually say no wash if possible. I always soap and rinse in the driveway, then back it inside the garage for the sealing, waxing, drying, etc. Plus my driveway slopes down to the alley so it helps to shed some of the water.
