I have read up extensively all across the web about Plasti dip.
I decided today to try it out. waiting on the gloss black top coat to dry

I cleaned, sprayed 5 coats of black plasti dip
then 2 light coats of duplicolor metallic graphite then light coat of gloss black on top of the silver metallic

I tried this same set up on the center caps first. the silver metallic just looked too similiar to the stock wheels except it has the flakes/sparkle to it. so i tried the gloss black over it. It looked awesome so itried it on the wheels

I know Plasti dip isnt permanent but i wanted to see how i liked black wheels before i painted them.

Looks good. I'm guessing the last two pics is the finished product and the other ones are in the drying process? (hence the miscolorations?)

yep you got it.

The card trick didnt work at all with 32+psi had to let all the air out to keep them in there

only did 2 wheels :) passenger side to see if i liked it or not so far i like it but we will see how it looks later

you have a so far so good process going on here. sure as hell would love to see that paint last a long time but if it doesn't then there's always another coat in waiting......:wink (2):

so far? only been 1/2 a day. I like it so far though

i only did 1 side (passenger) to see if i liked the look.

i dont know if i have the talent/guts to sand them and do a permanent paint job myself so this was a trial step

Hmm i want to do this, and is there a solution that will wipe clean the gloss black? does it damge the oem rim paint?

You have Nittos right?, how do you like them? running on oem numbers?

the top coat is just gloss black paint so it should clean up fine

i wish i had cleaned the wheels a little better but kept hearing plasti dip sticks (my wheels are slick from protectant/wax etc so i will see how it sticks

Tires are nitto

I got them for the way they looked! Couldn't be happier with them

im not a pro at painting (but its reversible)

the silver coat has a lot of metallic flake and they show throught he light black top coat a bit

it was about a $40 mod so...

add all off these pics are from a phone :)

David. I think if you wanted a better finish for a more permanent effect you should of sanded them down with water using a 1000 grit sandpaper.

I get they would come out better.

i will definately sand them down next time this was a exp to see if i liked gloss black wheels. it seems to make them appear bigger to be which is odd

any pics to back that up??

ive used bedliner spray on pball guns etc

it isnt easily reversible or are you talking about when i do a permanent paint job

reading it now.

i posted a question on here asking what people thought about the bed liner spray for black moldings etc a while back

i may do that next time its very durable doesnt chip on my paintball guns.

i used plasti dip for the sole purpose of a test to see how i liked it
