I bought a pair of bulbs around April 2012 and one is now blown. I emailed Retrofit to let them know since i am still under warranty and this was the response i got:

Hi Terrence

Thanks for your email and patience waiting on a response here. I'm surprised you actually got your stock ballasts to fire these bulbs as we knowingly don't recommended them. The stock Matsushita ballasts are normally not compatible with aftermarket bulbs nor are they under warranty for such.

If you would like to purchase OEM quality bulbs, we can likely get you 5% off to help out, but unfortunately, we never recommend aftermarket bulbs on those OEM Matsushita ballasts.

Thank you again and our apologies for any inconveniences!

What is this, they knew i was buying for a Infiniti FX 35 when i bought them. I emailed them back today but got no response yet. Anyone else have warranty issues with TRF

I've been running Morimoto D2S 35w 5000K bulbs for ~1.5 yrs, never an issue.

I assume you got 55w version?

If you got 55W bulbs then they are completely right.

If you got regular 35W bulbs, then they are completely BS'ing you and this would be the first time I have ever heard a negative for TRS.

I just ordered morimoto bulbs from them and on the phone they told me that they don't recommend running these bulbs on stock lamps. I got the 35w bulbs but well see what happens. I didn't feel like buying a whole new HID system now.

oh o! ive been running morimotos for 5 years and never had an issue. These were the good morimoto batches back in the days. Past couple years the quality dropped big. Im actually running my left headlight with an aftermarket ballast and the right oe ballast. The aftermarket one kind of reduces the light output and whiter than the oe ballast. I think RS is bsing and losing customer service!

I am using the D2S 35 watt bulb. I even mentioned they were the D2S 35 watt bulbs in my email to them. I emailed them back so i'll see what they say but this is bogus. They knew it was for a Infiniti FX 35 when i bought them. Why weasel out of a warranty especially it's just a bulb. If they don't warranty them i will never buy from them again nor will i refer them to anyone. I apologize for my post as i am not sure why the font came out that way

I had Morimotos both on my headlights and fog lights (retrofit). No issues 1.5 years now.

I recommend you forwarding this link to let them know they're going to piss a lot of customers and potentially lose repeat business with their pathetic response to a quality concern.

All iS members running the Morimotos (I know there's a lot) should chime in to show support. My 2 cents.

Thank you Cruiser i appreciate the support. This was the email i sent them so you guys have the complete story: Good Morning. How are you? Just wanted to say my lights are blown. I bought a set of the D2S Morimoto 35 for my Infiniti FX 35 around April 2012. I haven't had them for 2 years yet. What do i need to warranty them? Thank you for you attention

Yeah I agree ^^ especially cause it's just a bulb. I got referred to them from here. And I even told my other friends who don't have infiniti's about them

Was looking to buy a set of 3000k HID bulbs for my fog lights as well as a set of Osram 5000k bulbs for my headlights. I will be holding off until they clear this up.

If they don't I have already sourced another site for the rare Osram HID bulbs.

Which other site did you find?? Just so I have other options in the future lol. It's already too late for these bulbs I already ordered. And also no one has had any issues with the stock headlights and just swapping out for morimoto bulbs in the past right??

I ordered a bunch of HID kits from vvme.com 5 or 6 years ago. Only had a few that were bad out of the box, which they replaced. Just recently had to replace a bixenon bulb on my gf's Element after about 2 years of use. Not too bad for the price.

What's so special about Morimoto anyways?

I've been running Morimoto's both in the headlights as well as 35W Fogs for well over a year and haven't had a single problem.

Maybe post on hidplanet forums, TRS owns it and it generally gets their attention. Not sure why they wouldn't warranty an aftermarket bulb used on an OEM ballast if the wattages are compatible. That has to be the application for most aftermarket bulbs, who really would buy new ballasts just to run bulbs? I've heard of using convertors to run aftermarket ballasts with OEM style D2S, D2R, etc. bulbs, but never of OEM ballasts blowing aftermarket bulbs. I have heard issues about their warranties in the past, random denials for some people, no issues for others. Mostly international customers get the short end of the stick. FWIW, Morimoto bulbs are just rebranded Chinese bulbs like DDM. The only difference is that TRS will quality control them much better. Same with their projectors, you can get the same mini projectors that TRS sells on eBay for half price. They just won't have been inspected before hand.

Thank you Shadow, i will post over at hidplanet. This is just stupid, i am asking to warranty a bulb not ballasts or anything. What does one bulb costs them $15

Good luck. And I'm sure that the bulbs cost them less than $15. They buy in bulk from Chinese manufacturer and eBay sellers move the bulbs for like $15 a pair. They don't make anything, they just rebrand stuff made overseas. The reason they stopped carrying FX-R lenses is that after the container they bought ran out, they didn't want to buy another since it was low volume and they realized that TSX-R lenses work almost the same. Only advantage to going through TRS is that they are more stringent about checking who they source from and the quality before they ship. eBay sellers often have an easier warranty process because they know more of their bulbs will fail, so they send you new ones without questions. TRS tries the opposite approach and does better quality control, but the warranty is more involved. All of the headlight retrofitters have their own "brands" now too - Lightwerkz, 180, Umnitza, it's all sourced from China and rebranded.
