So I'm thinking that I'm going to be putting my Vossen CV7s up on the market soon. I'm going the forged route with smaller tires, 285/35r22, to maximize overall torque. Here's what I have in mind:

Interad DTM 7 3 piece forged:

Vossen VFS1 forged monoblock:

Hyperblack is the color of choice. So far, the DTM 7s have my heart, but the Vossens are in a very close second.

Thoughts and opinions?

Yeah the Interads are pretty damn sick. I saw the VFS1s up close at the dealership and the weren't too shabby either. Gloss graphite.

Look at member Yerbol's garage and thread he has the DTM 7's on his black FX50

I hate to be the one to point this out again, but the VFS series from Vossen are NOT forged wheels. That is once again just their epic marketing team working for them.

The wheels are flow formed, which is a different process to how their older low pressure cast wheels are made, but it is not the same as forged wheels.

If I am to understand and see through all the Vossen marketing jargon, the forged lineup they are trying to put out will be called their precision series, it has been like 4 years in the making, and they still aren't even fully released. Which just goes to show you how hard it is to make real forged wheels. Here is a thread which shows the timeline of when Vossen first teased forged wheels, and today when they still aren't available to the public:

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/the...n-series-pictures-images-details-request.html

Well that definitely narrowed down the playing field. This is exactly why I brought it up here first. I'm probably 2 - 3 months out from making the purchase - at a minimum.

Thanks meme.

Vossens are forged, correct me if I'm wrong. Vossen just recently installed several HAAS machines in 2015:

I saw these wheels in person and the craftsmanship is amazing:

I saw these wheels in person and the craftsmanship is amazing:

Those machines were purchased and have been working on their upcoming VPS series. So far they have shown the wheels on a whole bunch of cars, and created a lot of marketing material for them, but they have not released when the wheels will be available, or how much they will cost. Until they actually release those wheels to the public, Vossen doesn't have any forged wheels. (Go back to the link and you will see when they first started teasing forged wheels back at sema 2012).

Considering cast vossens cost as much as some forged wheels, i'm thinking forged vossens are going to cost wayy too much.

To date all Vossen wheels have been low pressure cast, or flow formed (another nice way of saying still cast).

VPS series is already available on their website. That Sienna van has VPS-303 wheels and they are already available for purchase(build to order). I saw these wheels in person at Nurotag in Miami. These are forged wheels.

Here is the VPS-306 forged wheel straight from the HAAS machine

I think 22" forged Vossen wheel cost around $2k a piece

Sorry I meant $1500 a wheel. Adv1 and HRE are around $2500 a piece. To be honest Adv1 has the best wheel designs ever, but they have a really shitty customer service. HRE's are the best custom wheels you can buy today in my opinion. Vossen forged wheel look very nice in person. I would take a VPS-303 in a heartbeat.

$2K per rim in 22" is almost in HRE pricing land which for a Vossen is ridiculous. A HAAS machine is just a big CNC mill, Vossen doesn't forge anything, they buy blanks just like everyone else and throw them into the machine to cut. I want to say a 22" blank is somewhere in the $200 and the machine time isn't $1800 so there is a tremendous markup in there. And their other wheels are not forged, they're cast, and some of them are flow formed which is pretty much casting while the wheel is spinning to help get a better grain structure. The rest is all marketing.

Vossen doesn't actually even make their cast wheels in house, it's pretty much all outsourced to factories overseas. So in reality Vossen is a design/import company with good marketing. With a little capital or some credit cards, anyone here could start their own wheel company. Just get on Alibaba and pick some wheels you like then import them in bulk. And if you want to have a forged wheel, HAAS machines have pretty generous payment or lease terms. I almost got one for my business years back, the monthly payments are less than you'd think so Vossen bragging about it really isn't a huge deal since very forged wheel maker has them.

If you want, you can even custom make 3 piece wheels. Just machine your face or have a shop custom machine your face from blanks, then buy the inner and outer barrels plus lots of bolts. The pricing isn't much more than what Vossen wants for 1 piece forged rims.

One of the biggest advantages of Vossen forged wheels is the "Infinity-Lip". It look gorgeous in person!

To be honest. I'm a really big fan of VPS series now. I would trade my Cor wheels for a Vossen Forged Monoblock.

I paid less for my Work wheels than these Vossens

---------- Post added at 05:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:18 PM ----------

...and they were built to spec

Avant-Garde wheels are 3 piece and those are way nicer for around the same money. Obviously HRE if you like one of their styles would also be nice.

I linked up with AG, and they offered sponsorship deals for a lot of guys for awhile. A set of custom spec 22's were like 4-5k. Any finish you wanted. In the end I found my HRE's thanks to one of the guys on here, and decided to try these out for awhile instead.

ADV.1 is a fucking joke as well. Just look up the whole 360forged debacle. Basically the owner of 360forged got ahead of himself, sold a bunch of wheels then didn't deliver them, fled, ducked his customers calls, and now he is back running ADV.1. That guy is a crook. I wouldn't buy fucking grapes from the guy, let alone $10,000 wheels.

Like shadow mentioned there is a lot of wheel companies out there, because it takes nothing but a nice design and some up front cash to get started, and who knows you might be able to build the next vossen.

The companies that are for real, are people like HRE, COR, BBS, Work, Volk/Rays, etc. These are companies that actually engineer wheels, build and test in house, and stand behind their product and service. You won't find a set of HRE's designs coming out of some lower end house like you see Vossens continuously coming out under the STR & niche brands.

Vossen is getting better with this, but it's hard to step away from the fact that they just spent the last 6 years hyping low quality cast wheels for the price of some of their competitors high quality wheels. So now they are hyping their actual forged wheels even harder. At this rate by the time vossen gets into the 3 piece game, their wheels will be like 10k a pop. wtf.
