So im planning on getting another car ( im keeping the FX) Im in need of something with some power under the hood. Im looking at maybe the 10k range but not too much over that. I'll be using it as my main transportation up at school for the year. I saw a few 05 g35x, 04-05 nissan maxima and a few TLs but they all seem to have pretty high millage on them. I also saw an 05 Altima SE-R which really caught my eye asking for 12k with 85k miles. what would you guys recommend ? any suggestions ? :)

It's hard to recommend without a price range first but if you want something FAST and get u through winters, get the new jeep srt8!

the SE-R altima seems nice...ive always liked the way the SE-R's looked and its a nissan so you cant go wrong

So you want something < 300hp with AWD to get you though the winters? Have you looked at any subarus? an '04 should put you in the 10k range.

I'm sorry that I just don't understand. From everything you want, I think you would find it all in your FX. Why not just drive the FX or if you want to buy something, get a 2nd FX for almost the same price as your target. I don't know if you'll find anything nice with more power under the hood than your FX. I say mod away like crazy for much less than $10k.

i like it

and im sure you can talk em down on the price too....or that mazda speed 6 thats on the bottom of the page...those haul ass! but its getting kinda high at $14k

yeahh im gonna try to see what i can get out of them, lol but persoanlly i don't like the mazdas ive test drove one before they are quick but just the style isn't as appealing to me, lol

i love my FX lol, its my baby but i want to leave it at home so my older brother can use it, we both baby the FX so i completely trust him with it ( and he also helps me pay the car) ive already put 40k miles on the FX this past year so im kinda in a way giving the FX to him and he'll hopefully put less miles on it. im getting another car for my own personal usage up at school and i don't think i could get another FX for under 10k, lol

i heard subarus are unreliable a few of my buddies around here have an STI that constantly give them problems, lol but yeah you got it spot on under 300hp doesn't have to be AWD but def. not RWD, lol

Used to have an Altima SE-R before my FX. I say do it for a few reasons:

1. You'll be pleasantly surprised the first time you stomp it
2. It's very roomy inside
3. Good mix of sport/luxury on the interior
4. Reliable engine (not so reliable tranny though, get a 6spd if you can find one)
5. The guys over at NissanClub are really informative (not anywhere near the guys here, but still better than other forums)

Not to offend anyone, but it's still an Altima.
I bet you can find a low end FX for around $12k, drive the heck out of it and still have your clean baby at home.

2004 Infiniti FX45 0-60 mph 6.3 Quarter Mile 14.8
2005 Nissan Altima SE-R 0-60 mph 6.0 Quarter mile 14.6

The 45 is at what? 320hp, Altima is 260hp and it's a VQ35 meaning he would have mods galore available should he feel like improving on those numbers.

Yeah, it's not an Infiniti I'll give it that - but for the price/mileage/condition he'd get within his budget - I'd say it's a good start.

Where have you seen an FX around the 10k range? :confused.:

Wow maybe porkandbeans was right! lol
Sorry to kinda "steal" this thread, but while we're on the subject. I might get another FX35 as well that's around that price range and these are the best two I found. Which of the two do you recommend? and does it matter if it has over 100k miles?

Yes, an Altima can move and the SE-R would be one to get. To be completely honest, it was driving an Altima (Hybrid) which drew me to look at Nissan and eventually the FX when I was planning my purchase. I was seriously amazed by the quickness, comfort, and high end conveniences. The drawback was (as with all Altimas IMO) the lack of pizzazz. I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited about an Altima. Maybe it's just too common for me. Just not my thing. I mean, it can be "nice", but once I went out with a girl that was "nice". It was boring, I didn't want to show her to my friends, and then I went on to something "fun"! I think you know what I mean.
On the other hand, if boring and reliable is what you want as a commuter, go for it.

Sadly, there are cheap FX's are out there around $12k. They're pretty darn used, but they're out there. On cars.com, I found 16 listed at or lower than $14k. Most of these were dealers, so the used markets will shave a few bucks.
This one recently sold on eBay for $10.9k:

Truth be told, the quality used car market makes a giant turn upwards around $20k.
