Picked up my FX50 BBK from Ege on Thursday, and spent the day today installing it. I know most will say that it should have taken only a couple hours at maximum, but of course I ran into some issues. First issue was that I had a tough time getting one of my old rotors off. Conveniently it was rusted in place. I was hoping to keep it in mint condition so that I can re-install it when(if) I get rid of the car. Tried hammering with a rubber mallet, hammering on the hat where the pads don't touch, and hammering the face of the rotor through a piece of wood. NOTHING would even get it to budge even a little bit. Finally got tired of it and hit the inside face of the rotor without the wood and after 2 or 3 shots it finally popped off. Got a coupe small dents on the rotor but I can live with it.
Breaks went on with no problems at all. Cut the last three threads off the banjo bolts, and everything went back together with no isses. Now I've done brakes before, but never had to actually take brake lines completely off the caliper. I learned the hard way today that the bleeder valve needs to be at the TOP of the caliper. Had originally installed them with the bleeders facing down, and tried to bleed everything 3 TIMES. Every time i started the car to test it, the brakes went competely to the floor. Finally called my old man and explained what I had going on, and he figured it out over the phone. Swapping them to the right sides took all of about 30 minutes, since everything was freshly installed. One more time through the bleeding process and VIOLA!
Everything is perfect now. No strange sounds or binding or anything. Break pedal feel has improved 1000%. It really is like night and day, and a disappointment that they didn't come with something this substantial from the factory. Lucky for me this setup fit behind my OZ Ultraleggeras PERFECTLY. Really looks like it was meant to be with a minimum of 5mm of clearance at the tightest point. Got home late with to many things to do, so I didn't have any time to take pics. I will be bringing my camera to work tomorrow to grab a few flicks at lunch. I'll post them up as soon as i possibly can.
Overall I am completely stoked and very very happy with this mod. More money spent very well to increase the overall performance of my FX. Two thumbs up and HIGHLY recommended. Thanks to John for doing the initial fit on this mod and help answering my questions, and to Ege for the sweet deal.
