Mine's Racing Harness (Reverse/swap shifter pattern)

I have a feeling that Turbocad will chime in for this. Aiya had his done years ago without the Mine's adapter.

Since turbo had my center console out for the paddle shifter install, it was a simple snip and switching of two wires to reverse the shift pattern.

Here is the diagram from the paddle shifter install process showing the two wires needed to be swapped (one is white and the other is purple/white):

Have you ever seen a car that had the directions reversed from the factory?

The other cars in the household that have tiptronic have the same pattern as the FX. My playstation logitech g25 wheels on the other hand is pull back = shift back. Guess i've been playing too much gran turismo :nerd (2):

It's to mimic a true manual. Pulling straight back would go from 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, so upshifting. Pushing straight forward would be like 2-1, 4-3, 6-5, so downshifting.

Haha. This would be a cool mod to do, as it is a more natural feeling. Funny thing is I never used the manu-mode on my FX until a day before I traded it in. I'm sure I will be using it more when I do the Trans-go kit.

yeah there are others too I think, can't think of which atm. it's very easy to switch the wires without any kind of adapter, just need to pop the radio out & get at the wires in the module

I want this done, the OE configuration always seemed counter intuative to me. Probably even better if used on a moving car.

Turbo, why do you need the relays in the circuit instead of just clipping and crossing the "shift up" and "shift down" wires?

The relay in the diagram above was for the paddle shifter install. Swap the wire will do it for reversing the shift pattern.

Mazda. I used to have a Protege5 that was reversed from the FX. It always felt more natural that way as compared to the FX and my old IS350 (on that car, I just used the paddle shifters mostly).

yeah you don't need any relays to swap up for down. those are for paddle shifter install.

at the unified meter(plastic box in the radio stack) you just need to switch the white(terminal 4) with the purple w/white stripe(terminal 14). just cut them both and connect the white to the purple & vice versa... the hardest part of the whole thing is just removing the radio. pat if you need a hand with it swing by bro...

and you think these are bad, my benz does tiptronic sideways :confused.: towards the drivers side for down and towards the pass side for up...

that would be much harder to do, much harder to access. I remember looking there and realizing that it's much easier to access at the back of the radio... if your really opposed to cutting the wires then you can actually switch them at the same plug where you would be cutting them, you will need to release the 2 terminals without damaging the locking tabs, remove the terminals from the main plug then reinsert them reversed. cutting is easier, less chance of damaging anything, and if soldered and insulated well, will be fine for the lifetime of the vehicle...

Thanks TC6. I have been a HUGE fan of soldering lately (did a bunch of custom wiring on on my wife's Sienna: integrated the factory backup camera to the aftermarket Kenwood, integrated factory steering wheel controls, TV's in headrests, Homelink mirror, etc). I was hoping, thinking that the harness may actually be easier to get to near the shifter and to switch out the pins through there, but sounds like that will be a pain. I think I will do the cut method as described here.
