Megan Vs. BC coilovers

I am finally getting coilovers and have done as much research as I can to try to find out the really difference between BC and Megan. I know that a lot of members are running BC and a few are running Megans.

I want to know the best for durability for long term, best ride high variation. Im looking to lower but not sure on how low I want to go. I know the price difference is not much so what is the overall consciences. Thanks for any input in helping me make a final decision.

Get the cheapest and call it a day. The minor differences is not worth the wasted brain power or time. They are that close in product to me. I've installed both on g35x sedans and compared side by side.

If you took the labels off of each set, I doubt anyone could tell which was which. The have the same height adjustment, same damping adjustment, likely the same durability (haven't heard either one fail). Just get whichever one is cheaper for you.

i disagree, i had Megans and they needed periodicall greasing to avoid any clunking and coil binding issues. You had take out every piece of the coilover to grease at least 6 places. Plus, the top nut on the shock body kept getting loose, so i applied loctite and proper torque.. I havent heard anyone complaining about BC coils. So id say go with BC, the shock body is larger if i recall and better made.

Well, I do have coil bind noise in my BC's, but I've also had it on every coil over setup I've owned on a car with strut suspension in front. Not enough for me to worry about on the FX, it's been worse on previous cars. I haven't had issues with bolts/nuts working loose. I did have one of the front damping adjusters seize which required taking it apart and cleaning it out.

I've never put both side by side to compare shock bodies, but in all the pics they look the same. There's only so much space, not sure how BC could build a larger shock body.

The guy who a lot of us got the BC's from said they used something that was larger than what the Megan's used. BC also offers new shock bodies for $95 each and sells replacement parts.

With some of these issues you guys have had, is it really worth upgrading to coilovers if you are already lowered on springs like H&Rs? Seems like those u don't
need to worry about much...while I've read a bunch of posts about issues with coilovers. I was also thinking about upgrading but now not sure if it's worth it.
Help me decide :)

Depends on the issues really. A lot of the issues you can just ignore and it won't cause any problems. I know mine sometimes make noises, but I don't know if it's the coilovers, other suspension parts, or even the hood liner rubbing on the STB. Basically, they may be more annoyances that issues that need fixing.

Yeah, it's all minor issues. More of a nuisance than anything that would cause real problems. Just noise, some creaks and groans.

If you never ever want to hear a pop or creak, stick with H&R. Then again, one of my H&R front springs once popped out of the seat and sat at an angle.

Thx guys...how do you feel about the ride quality? I know you can adjust the dampening so you can make the ride more firm or soft. What do you guys prefer, I like
the way my car rides now but feel it's s just a little bouncy. So this is much better with the coils? Any of you run them really firm?

These are all good points. Im looking at lowering it and tucking the tires in. I figure that both will offer about the same in drop.
how many miles do some of you have on the coilovers?

I actually ran mine far on the stiff end for awhile, then realized if I backed them off a tad they still felt sporty enough but were more compliant to bumps in the road. When on smooth roads, I can't imagine anything riding much better.

I think I have 45-50k. I know I was one of the first to get them. I test drove the Megan's right after they came out I think, and then got the BC's probably 3-4 months later.

I ran my BC's full stiff for a while too in order to minimize the rubbing some. Ride was ok on smooth roads, but on beaten up city streets, it wasn't great. I've since gotten stiffer springs and backed off the damping some. Rides better, but still not good on small bumps, not that I care about that. It's not as compliant as H&R, but the handling is better. Less bouncy since the shocks are properly damped and not underdamped like stock ones.

I've had mine on for ~20K and they're still good. I run them on the lowest setting too which I'm not sure is that great for the shocks, but no issues so far.

Im at stock right now so when I do the drop Im thinking if I will need some wheel spacers. Any suggestions for what size to get to give it a clean look and not rub?

I've noticed that my driving habits revolve around road conditions. For example, on the way to work after pulling out of the neighborhood the right lane is pretty beat it up in one spot, so I get in the middle lane then merge shortly after before I turn right. And then after turning right there's a pothole in the road and I always move all the way left in my lane to avoid it. I almost always end up getting to it right as I'm coming to a stop for the light too.

Great info guys...thx. So what spring rate are you guys running...10kg front 12kg rear??

MB...I run 25mm spacers all around and my wheels are pretty flush with the body. No rubbing issues unless I hit a huge dip and the car bottoms out then the back
wheels rub a little but that rarely ever happens. But you may want to roll your rear fenders with the coils.

I have a bunch of people's spring rates they are running on my laptop at home, from back when I was thinking about switching from the stock springs they come with. Most people seem to not like them as much but I haven't noticed any real need to swap them. Or I'm just used to them at this point.

I think the BC's come with 8Kg front and 12Kg rear as default set up?...but I remember reading about people switching the fronts to 10kg or even 12kg
because it was too soft....I think I may go for 10/12 when I do decide to upgrade :)
