I got a Magellan 1700 for christmas and plan on installing it next week . My plan is to do a 100% custom install that nobody has really done yet. The screen is 7in and i plan on putting it were the analog clock is now. I have decided not to do the OEM screen location for several reasons. Ill be putting all of my instal pics here for everyone to see!!!

Besides all of this i have a big question about audio from the GPS device. This Magellan unit has a 3.5 mm video input that i plan on using to play movie and such through some sort of video device. I haven't decided exactly what type of video device yet, but deff not an ipod(I use that just for music through the OEM screen). I'd like to get the audio from the GPS and video unit throughout the FX's speakers. I haven't been able to place my finger on what ill actually need to do that so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Gonna be different where the clock is. Will you just listen to the turn by turn most of the time? I'm one of those visual guys who need to see the next street =p or do you have something else planned for the OEM location? Can't wait for the install!

I dont mind just listening to turn by turn but its there if i need to look at it. To me it seems most practical, and i do not wanna go through the process of moving the oem screen so it will stay were it is. I wont know were its gonna end up 100% till i open up the console and see what i have to work with. The GPS unit might even end up were the sunglass holder is?!?!?!?

Magellan 1700 Video Problem

I also have the 1700 and have been on the phone with Magellan support who told me the unit does not yet recognize video input. They are currently writing firmware to correct this. Basically false advertising. I had asked them specifically how do I connect my ipod to the 1700. I wanted to know the exact cable to use but they did not know. So.....no video for us for now.....let me know if you hear otherwise.

I believe SZJ2020 has been able to extract video through his 1700. I know he has been able to run video from his ipod to it but i dunno about a dvd player or other similar unit?

Just got my 3m DI NOC Carbon vinyl in the mail today and let me tell you guys this stuff is amazing. The look is perfect and honestly looks like real carbon fiber. The texture is a perfect amount of both smoothness, and you can feel every weave. Cant wait to lay this stuff down but it prob wont happen till next weekend

Any luck on the install? I hope there isn't much cutting because I plan on getting the Magellan instead of the Garmin.

The nav screen is finally in!!! Looks great and was alot of work! Still working on the lower screen bc mine broke in the process of relocating il post some pics when i get a chance!

Nice, did you have to modify the metal bracket from the stock screen or did the Magellan fit in? I'll wait to see what you did so I can start on mine, lol.

Yes the bracket had to be modified.... I cut it and grinded it down about a half inch bc with the nav unit in / the stock control panel wont push back into place / the nav unit doesn't sit deep enough

Darn, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks. Good luck with the bottom screen!

It wasnt that hard you just need thr right tool i used a DREMEL with a cutting wheel and that seemed to me to be the best thing to use

Does anybody who uses the 1700 know anything about or were to find the firmware to allow the unit to play video? Last i heard they havent developed it yet but idk!?!?

Play video from your iPod or iPhone? Think another member used a cable from the Apple Store. The firmware isn't out yet, I think, for other video inputs.
