Hello All,

I recently picked up an 11 M56s. I Love the car. There is nothing one really needs to do to this ride. But in my case there is nothing better than to see a car with a great stance. Hence I'm looking for lowering springs to help improve the stance and handling. Ebach stands out as the spring available. But is there anything else out there and who would you recommend going through to purchase the springs.

I've decided on BC racing Coilovers. I'll be able to adjust the height and comfort of the ride. So I'm looking forward to this mod. I had a light tint done all the way around today. So the modding has begun. The photo below is without tint.

Being able to adjust the ride height you want is priceless

Trunk spoiler & roof spoiler would go well with your coilovers.

Any pics of the trunk spoiler?

Thanks Freddie for the link. I have a question for anyone that can answer it. I've purchased some BY racing coilovers. With that said does anyone have any recommendations for setting up the coilovers. I don't want to be so low that I have to be concerned about any camber kits etc... and I don't want to be bone jarring stiff. So if anyone has measurements, pre load etc...Please post them up. I look forward to seeing what others have done.

Most set the rear shock around the middle

The front you can set it at the softest and as you drive you can adjust it to your liking.

I'm on D2's and I think my numbers are (0 is soft thru 36 the hardest):

28 front
25 rear

The lower you go the stiffer you want the shock.

I think BC Racing may work the other way as 0 hardest and 36 softest, you'll need to check that 1st.

I would tell you to have at least you and a front pass in the car with a full tank when testing. Just keep in mind you don't want to be to soft so that when other people get in the car or your trunk is full that your not floating all over the place..

Hey Freddie just a question for you. did you install the coilovers yourself or did you have someone do it for you? I've been back for about a week and I'm looking to get them installed asap or do it myself its not to far off the beat and path to do.

I have done 7 M45 (Y50) with no lift or air. It's not hard it just takes time, I do them with my cuz in about 5hrs total.

In my area this type of work cost a lot, I have heard of up to $700 for install.

My cuz and I get between $275 and $350 for installation pending on suspension.

I just did an M45 last Saturday with D2 Racing coilover, we charged $275 and customer was more than thrilled with our work.

Freddie, thanks for your response. Yeah the dealer would like 750 that includes an alignment. My question to them was, why do I need the alignment so soon, when the suspension hasn't settled yet. I also have a guy in the area that will do it for 250.00, but of course he is out of town. I personally know I have all the tools needed to get the job done, I just don't have the space at the moment. So, my concern is there anything I need to be aware of for the rear since it has active streering in the rear. The front looks pretty straight forward. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can only speak of the Y50's as I haven't done any of the new M's.

I would tell you to take a wheel from the rear off and take a look, if it's the same as the Y50 you'll need to deal with 4 nuts on each side of the car:

The bucket that holds the spring has 1 nut & bolt

In the wheel well looking up at the top of the strut you'll need to remove 2 nuts.

The bottom of the strut has 1 nut & bolt.

That's all that has to be done on the rear.

You will need 2 jacks, 1 to lift the car and 1 under the spring bucket to slowly release spring pressure.

WARNING:

On the Y50 the bottom of the strut has the nut welded to it, your coilover kit may not include this nut. I know for a fact that D2's do not. These are somewhat hard to find because of the fine threads. Even when you call the dealer in my area and they look at the diagram it shows no part number

My best tool for this job is a 5ft pipe to un-do all the over tighten bolts. Also try to use 6-point sockets if possible.

It's been quite some time now since you've had the coils, how do you like them? Do you have any issues with them making noise, etc? Really just looking for feedback and your thoughts on them as I'm considering buying a set but have heard mixed reviews about these. Thanks

Don, as far as for the Y51. I love the coils, you can adjust the height and firmness of the ride. It was a good choice for me. And the stance looks great IMO.

Just another Note if you plan on doing the BC coilovers. I highly sugest that you get extender for your rear set up. This will enable you to make easy access adjusments for road or track configuration. and if you have passengers this will make there ride in the back seat more comfortable for the long hauls. the extenders are flexible and you can trim them to your desired height. I just recently decided to make mine flush with the rear deck. this was the best 35 dollar mod you could spend your money on if you purchase the BC coilovers.

Do you have any pics of the extenders trimmed to sit flush with the rear deck?
