Hi pros, I'm looking at an used kinetix hfc from a g35. Does anyone know that if it fits our fx? I've done some research online, and it seems like there are 2 versions. I'm just wondering what the differences are. Are they both fit with no problem? Also how can I determine if the hfc is in acceptable condition? Please let me know. Thanks!!!

Btw, the seller states that he doesn't have the bolts for the hfc, so can I just use the stock bolts to install? And here is the link: http://modesto.craigslist.org/pts/3182344197.html

There are two versions of the Kinetix hfc's (v1 and v2). Not sure how to tell the difference. Try finding pics online.

I have a set from a G35 and they fit perfectly.

You can reuse your old hardware but its recommended to get new stuff. They're nothing fancy - just nuts and bolts.

$120 is an extremely good price if they're in decent condition. Its hard to tell the condition visually...

So they fit our fx right?
Do you mind to let me know your email address, so I can send you a pic of the inside of the hfc that he just text me since I don't know how to attach the pic from my cell phone here. Thanks

If the substrate is chipped, I would be slightly concerned. The thing to worry about with used cats is the element blowing out or melting (this can happen w/ stock cats too). But if you're not boosted, it's less of a concern.

Yes, they fit.

I'm not really an expert in that area. (I don't know what to look for) Maybe shadow can help you out...?

Btw, do you guys know what bolts and nuts I need to buy? Like size or name? Any gasket needed as well?

I'm not an expert either, I've just blown out cats before (boosted) and have seen enough damaged ones to know what it looks like. Pretty much if the substrate looks messed up, it is. It's pretty obvious when they're damaged. I haven't done this in a while, but I'm pretty sure you can just go get an OEM gasket and hardware set.

For sure, the oem hardware and gasket set will work. Here are a couple pics from when I removed my kinetix hfc's to install my headers.

So, should I just basically go to dealer and ask for oem cat hardware package with bolts and gaskets?

I'm wondering the same thing as Viperi but Im looking to put one on my 2nd gen with stock exhaust. Is there any rasp with a stock setup?

I heard you don't get that much performance if none at all. Also, Test Pipe vs High Flow Cat if you call them that Test pipe are better?

not sure then. anyone here have hfc's with nismos?

Yea, this is my setting right now. I love the sounds, but its not the time for another smog yet. So, I'm not sure if it can really pass the smog. Hopefully, it does!!! But I heard that someone has the G with the kinetix HFC passed the 1st smog, but no luck on the 2nd.

There will be some, but it will be minimal. Some of the rasp will come from the HFC's themselves, and some will come from larger diameter HFC meeting the smaller diameter Y-Pipe. I think the HFC's are 2.5" and the stock is 2.1"? The stock resonator and muffler will minimize this.

FWIW, test pipes will pass emissions if you have the extender or anti-foulers, whatever it's called. Basically for most OBDII+ cars, if you don't trip the CEL, you pass. You won't pass visual if your state does that though. It's why in CA, lots of people gut old HFC's or stock cats, it still looks like a cat is there. Newer cars are harder to fool than older cars though. I had a '97 Maxima, custom turbo, big MAF, big injectors, no precats, no cat, open dump. That car barely idled and it would pass emissions. I just had to reset the ECU and baby it for a little while, then drive it up, get them to test it and done.
