In tyre wheel sensors

Wheel/Tyre sensors inside each wheel. Does anyone know much about these and how they work? I have these on my 2009 FX35 AWD and I am unsure how they exactly work and what purpose are they as my tyre pressures are correct according to the Infiniti service department, However the information I get on screen in the car tell me the pressures are different on ALL four wheels when tyres are hot. Does anyone know if this is okay and correct? For example lets say that the drivers front wheel is 285, passenger front 295, drivers rear, 304, passenger rear wheel 245. These figures will change when the car is driven.

Before I collected my car when it was new I had nitrogen put in the tyres instead of air, sales staff told me that it was better. Any opinions here?

Hot tyres?

you mean the tyres are running hot? The tyre figures I placed in the thread aren't the correct figures but an example, I can easily post the correct figures later when I drive the car to work.

Seriously, I am still learning about this car and its equipment.

I live in Taiwan, summer here daily temp = 38C so its hot, evening temp maybe 27C. Even in winter here its like the UK spring/summer.

Hmmm

Like I said I didn't even know that I had TPMS but know doubt this is something else to go wrong when the car becomes older and costly to repair!! I don't even see the point in it to be honest with you.

Great having all fancy options when a car is news but you pay through your teeth when they decide to go wrong.

Hmm...I don't know about those numbers but do you know the default pressure for your tires? The numbers will increase when the tires heat up but with nitrogen in the tires instead of air those numbers should not fluctuate as much.

I know what you mean Stu, I will check the tyre pressures again today before heading into work for peace of mind. I understand that Infinity can reset the TPMS via a tool.

Here is some photos of my 2009 FX35. These photos were taken before I had installed twin laser jammers to the front of the car Conqueror M35's. I will post a shot of the jammers later. Going to install one to the rear just above the number. Incidently, the car registrating number I chose myself and had to pay $2000 dollars for.

I can get the TPMS reset at infiniti if required but I shall check the tyre pressures on my way to work.

Its not actually personalized but here in Taiwan they do things differently. I didn't desire a government issued number, so I chose my own and people know its special when they see it as government wouldn't issue this kind of number....wink wink

Note the rear fog light in the lower back-end. Cute.

Terry your FX looks great. I like the side marker above the front fender side vent. I also see yours comes with a light or reflector in the center of the rear bumper.

As to your tire pressures, it is normal for your tire pressures to increase as much as 18 kpa more as you drive on them (for people that don't know 1psi=~7kpa). As they heat up the pressure will increase. The nitogen does lessen that a bit and makes it more stable.
On the display each tire can vary unless each tire was filled when cool and with exactly the same pressure.
Just set your pressures after the vehicle has sat all night and set them exactly the same.
Your sensors do sound like they are working fine.

Ah, kPa makes more sense. lol
Its normal for the tires to be at different temperatures after they heat up, but it seems like 3 of your tires are a little high in pressure.. 3 of the 4 range from 41-45 psi (285-304 kPa) where the 4th tire is at 35psi. Whats the factory recommended pressure for those tires?

I'm surprised the dealer said they were normal. Maybe you have a couple of bad sensors..?

I will post a photo of the on screen setings I get from the TPMS when I get the chance, maybe tomorrow. It rained today so I didn't use the car as I had polished and waxed it yesterday and didn't want to get it dirty. So I used my scooter instead, another popular thing here in Taiwan.

For your information the light inserted into the rear bumper is in fact a working rear fog light. Taiwan does get different specifications on its new cars compared to other countrys, I think the european spec infiniti also gets the rear fog light in the bumper too.

Anyway, for my own peace of mind I will indeed check the tyre pressures when I get the chance as I don't want different tyre presures all round. Thanks for the advice guys. I knew joining this forum would be a good thing.

Also all the windows including front screen have v-Kool window tint on them, its one of the very best here in Taiwan, I even did the sunroof ha ha ha, so hard to see in my car whatever angle you try to view it from, police here have a relaxed attitude to this window tint as their cars also have it, including the front screen.

Finally, the second generation of Infinity FX35 get the  from me for sure.

Here is an image of the on screen tyre pressure

Hello guys. Image of screen of tyre pressure setting from Tyre sensor..................this one is taken when the tyres were cold and before I left my home.

The next image was taken after travelling 27Kms, note the difference in pressures from sensors.

Front laser jammers, you can just about see the 2 black jammers. From a distant its impossible, they kind of blend in with the car and in fact look as if they are part of the car.

244.jpg

The green led alights RED and will sound a high pitched noised when the jammers returns a laser signal back to its operator, the operator thinks his equipment has a fault and will re-aim and by this time I WILL HAVE REDUCED SPEED TO THE LEGAL LIMIT. My jammers have been setup to work only when a lasers is aimed at the car, they will continue to work and I do not have to slow down as its imposible for the police to record my speed. Trust me I know these things work as I have seriously tried them!!

The other unit is my GPS camera and radar locator, it has its own internal GPS antenna. Another great unit.

I think they heat up pretty evenly. your right rear tire is about 2psi less than the others (38 vs 40-41psi). Check the side of driver side door to see what the factory recommended pressure is. If it says 32psi, than they should all be at around 221 kPa when cold. Unless the nitrogen has an affect on the pressure readings... does anyone here know if it does?

Terry, to begin with I believe your Dealer has too much air in all the tires.

Look at the tire pressure decal by the drivers door. It will probably say 228 (33psi) or 234 kpa (34psi) recommended pressure. Note: this is cold inflation pressure.

I would get a good tire pressure gauge and lower the pressure down to the recommended pressure (I actually run my tires at 34psi (234kpa). Do it carefully so they are all the very same, and do it in the early morning when they are cold and also make sure the sun has not been shining on one side (that can even increase the pressure).

Other than that I think all looks good with your sensors, and it is very normal for the tires to increase pressure as they warm up. Because your LCD is showing kpa instead of psi it looks like the tire pressures are a lot different than each other.

tyre pressures

Thank you guys, your a great help. I can change the tyre pressure settings to PSI in settings of the car computer.

Will check tyre pressures 4 sure.

Ya, I would look in PSI also. If it matters, some of my PSI differs by 4-5 from tire to tire. The KPA makes it look worse than it is I bet.
