Thanks for the interest but we would like to get this going real soon. We would even be happy to offer the unit for free. If you know anyone we are real easy to get a hold of. GROMAUDIO is the website and go to the support section to send us an email.

Yes a 03 will also be helpful as well. We are still on the lookout for a model <09 as well. Please go to the website of GROM Audio and go to the support page. Once there select Technical support and then choose GROM-USB2 module. The message will go directly to me and I will be able to send you more information. Thanks

I have an 09 and I am from Belmont. Send me more info and i might even be able to stop by this Saturday to discuss.

Let me apologize if anyone feel that I've jacked this thread, BUT I just want to let you all know about my experience with the USB feature of this device before you roll your ride in for test.

I have been using this with a USB stick for about three months since March. My honest opinion? This unit still need LOTS of work....at least for the USB portion of the device (I'm not an Ipod, Iphone or "Ianything" user/fan ).

Some of the problems I have are (at least with the USB feature of the device):
Startup: Sometime the unit doesn't startup, you gotta either turn off the radio, unplug the USB stick and plug it back in. There are times that neither of the method works and I play cd instead for awhile and the go back to it and it works again.

Resume Play: Anytime you turn of the radio, and go back it does not play from where you left off. It tends to remember the disc/folder that it chose to remember at initial use of the drive/stick. I try various usb stick and have no control/clue as to which disc it chose to remember.
Voulme: Another problem is the volume seems like 5 notches lower then playing the cd. I play the same song on cd and the volume settings that I was play the GROM almost blow my ear drum out.

I been work with their support guy (Alberto) for the problems from day one. He sent me the latest firmware upgrade and it seems to help the startup problem quite a bit, BUT still problem every now and then. They also point me to increase the volume thru a config file and it not help much as it distort the sound quality if you set it to the max.

So to sum up my three months of use of the USB feature. I'll say it's a 60% good.

Hey there LA_FX, just wanted to check with you (or anyone else) to see if there have been any updates on this Grom USB product? I'm actually interested in giving this a try. I actually have an OEM iPod connector but would prefer to use this product have a fixed drive for music storage. I'm looking to attach a thumb drive to it. When I look at my iPod connector that attaches to the armrest connector spot, it looks very similar to the connector shown at their website. It would be great if I could just use the male-male pin connector they provide to attach the Grom Interface to my FX's armrest connector. Does anyone know if this would work?

Does anyone else have any experience with this product? I've been searching the web for reviews/stories but am not coming across much. Thanks in advance.

Hey Rolastro, as far as I know the firmware that I'm currently using/install is the latest. It's a major improvement from the previous firmware for sure. Sorry, I don't remember the version # off hand. I took some pic as I was installing the unit. Let me know if you like to see them. Not familiar with the OE iPod connector, but I took some good (I think) pic of the connectors as well. I'm currently using a 16GB USB thumb drive/stick with it

Yes - thanks for the offer to send/post pics - I would appreciate it. BTW I can't use PM yet.

So in your opinion so far, do you think the Grom unit is worth what you paid -taking into account the issues you've had? I've actually been in contact with Alberto @ Grom via e-mail about a couple of questions and they seem pretty responsive and helpful. That's a good sign :).

They also sell a cable that solves the problem with the later iPhones not charging while using the OEM iPod connector. I think I may pick this up as well if I decide to go with the GROM unit.

Even though there are issues still, I do think it worth the money. It would be awesome add-on when they iron out all the issues. Yea, their support (Alberto) has been very responsive and helpful. I had the feeling that they well aware of the issues and working very hard at it.

The firmware version that I'm currently using is 2.35. With this firmware, I say that startup problem has been reduce to about 10% of the time now. Resume play still an issue.

I have not decide where to locate the USB connector yet, so the USB cable and thumb drive just kinda laying around the console area near the shifter.

Here are some pics that I took during my installation.

The resume play issue has been resolved. It was my bad that I didn't connect the red wire from the GROM to a CONSTANT 12V source. I had it connect to a wire show 12V only when the radio is on. Made the change to connect it to a constant 12V source last night and been working fine since. I loving it.

la_fx35, sorry for reopening this thread but i just got the grom unit myself and i'm having a problem in where i hear nothing but static and a whine but when i crank the volume i hear my music in the static. I've contacted grom but they havent responded back, its been near 2 weeks and i wanna fix this damn thing..

now, i believe i hooked up the power wire of the grom to the wrong 12 volt constant going into the radio.. the instructions that came with the grom say to use a yellow or purple wire, but doing some research i found out that the 04 fx35's 12v constant is a white/blue striped wire and i have it hooked up to that.. i believe the static is being caused because of that..

my question is what wire did u hook-up the grom unit to? the white/blue striped or something else?

I hope you're not getting your posts up b/c you're selling something Daniel. You're firing off posts with a lot of "thanks".

la_fx35:

Can you give any update on your experience with Grom? I'm looking to add a USB input to my 2009 system. I have an Ipod input but unfortunately I cannot get it to work with my Iphone5/Ipad Mini 8 pin connector. I want to get away from all this proprietary crap and go to a USB port like the 2010 came with.

Just beginning my research and want to know if I should even contact Grom to inquire about their Iphone5 support....
